It’s easy to get into an unhealthy routine when you’re living a busy life. That said, it’s crucial to prioritize your well-being whenever you can. The simplest changes can make huge differences when it comes to your health. And a few small steps can get you there.

Here are nine healthy habits to start today.

1. Replace Soda With Water

Do you drink a lot of soda? It’s important to reduce how many sugary beverages you consume daily. It doesn’t take long before those drinks create health problems. You might eventually develop a disease or condition like type 2 diabetes.

Do your best to cut out soda completely. If you hate drinking plain water, you can choose seltzer waters with natural flavors. It’s also smart to cut down on your creamer intake if you like putting sweetener in your coffee. Choose black tea instead to avoid consuming as much sugar.

If you check out this dentist in Vienna, they’d also tell you how beneficial water is to your teeth compared to soda. Soda is an acidic beverage and is detrimental to your dental health. On the other hand, water neutralizes the acid in your mouth, protecting your teeth from erosion.

2. Take a 10-Minute Walk

Setting aside 10 minutes to take a walk can do wonders for your health. It’s essential to get enough physical activity every day. However, it’s not always easy to put that time in when you’re busy. That’s why it’s always best to start small.

Incorporate a break into your daily routine that allows you to walk for at least 10 minutes. If you have enough time, you can always walk more. But a 10-minute minimum is a great way to get some exercise every day.

3. Turn Off Electronics Before Bed

The blue light from your electronics makes falling asleep harder for most people. If you spend a lot of time watching TV or reading articles before bed, you’re likely missing out on a good night’s rest. It’s smart to consider turning off electronics about an hour before your bedtime.

You can also invest in blue light glasses to wear throughout the day. Using computers too much without protecting your eyes against the blue light can cause headaches.

4. Eat Fruit Every Morning

How often do you eat fruit? Getting your daily dose of fruit will help you maintain a well-rounded diet so that you can support your health. Many people don’t eat enough fruit — and while that’s not exactly detrimental, you’re probably missing out on crucial nutrients and vitamins.

Try making a smoothie a few days a week. You can also add fruit to your oatmeal or mix fruit into your yogurt and granola. A glass of sugar-free orange juice can be beneficial, too.

5. Floss Teeth Before Brushing

Flossing your teeth is vital if you want to maintain a healthy mouth. This action will help you avoid plaque and kill bacteria that can be harmful to your gums and teeth. You should floss each morning and each night.

You can go the extra mile by swishing with mouthwash when you’re finished brushing. Be sure to schedule dentist visits every six months, too.

6. Call a Loved One

This tip is more for your mental health. A busy schedule can get in the way of taking time to connect with your loved ones. That’s especially true when you don’t live near each other. A weekly phone conversation will help you keep those relationships strong.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made spending time with family and friends more difficult. If you’re feeling down because you can’t travel, you should host dinners and gatherings over a video call.

7. Go to Sleep at the Same Time

Going to bed at the same time every night will promote a healthy sleep cycle. Your body follows a natural circadian rhythm. If your circadian rhythm gets out of whack, you won’t be able to sleep as well as you could. Consistency is key in maintaining your circadian rhythm.

Stick to a strict bedtime and wake up at the same time every day. You can be flexible on weekends, but it’s best not to stray too much from your original goal.

8. Use a Daily Planner

If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed by your schedule, it’s beneficial to find ways to make life more manageable. A daily planner can help you keep track of everything efficiently. Having order in your life will help you overcome those negative emotions.

9. Read One Book Monthly

Reading is another habit you should start. It’s a great way to keep your brain healthy and active as you age. Anything you can do to use your cognitive skills more often is beneficial. Plus, you can learn a lot by reading about different topics. You should always strive to gain new knowledge.

Try fluctuating between fiction and non-fiction books so you can expand your horizons. It may be a good idea to join a monthly book subscription service to help you stay on track.

Leading a Healthy Life Is Easier Than You Think

Maintaining your well-being is as simple as following these suggestions. Before long, you’ll be able to build a routine that helps you both physically and mentally. Keep these ideas in mind as you work to make positive changes in your life.
