Who doesn’t like to play golf? The serene outdoors, getting plenty of exercise, and testing your skill. No wonder golf is one of the top 10 sports in the US.

If you’ve tried playing golf, though, you may have found yourself getting frustrated with the putting part. You’re not alone. Golf is a great sport, but it can be difficult to learn how to putt better and break 90.

That’s why in this article, we’re going to help you out. Here are some tips for how to putt better in golf to make your game more enjoyable.

Dress for Confidence

When it comes to putting better in golf, one of the best tips is to dress for confidence. So choose clothing that complements the courses in which you play. One of these golf shirts for men or a hat might do the trick.

It is important to have confidence in your putting skills. And wearing the right attire can help you become more confident about yourself and condition yourself.

Evaluate Your Putter

If you want to evaluate your putter, the best tips are to first check the weight of your putter. Check that it is the correct weight for your swing. If it’s too heavy, it can slow down your tempo and make it difficult to make a consistent stroke.

You should also check for the loft on the putter face and the length. A higher degree of loft helps get the ball rolling quickly, and a longer putter gives you more control and accuracy.

Finally, look at the shaft. The best putters should be the correct length, with the shaft tip bent at the correct angle for the player’s height and posture.

Focus on Your Mental Game

You must set achievable goals and visualize yourself achieving them. Identify what your desired outcome is before each shot and take time to focus on what you need to do to get there. Maintain a positive attitude and remember that all shots matter, no matter how small.

Devote time to practice and self-care. Make sure you have breaks in between shots to stretch and take deep breaths.

Additionally, stay focused on the present shot while avoiding thoughts of past shots and staying grounded in the here and now. Keep in mind that it is okay to make mistakes, use them to learn and grow from them.

Switch Up Your Grip

Grip plays an important role in putting, which is why it is important to switch up your grip on your golf equipment. One option is the crosshanded grip, where your left hand is your lead hand for a right-handed golfer. This eliminates tension in your arms during the stroke, allowing you to maintain balance and have a consistent stroke speed.

Another alternative is the claw grip. This is where the handle of the putter is placed in the fingers of your top hand, and your bottom hand helps control the direction of the putt.

Finally, there is the blade grip. This is where you hold the top of the shaft with one hand and the clubface with the other. This allows you to get a steady stroke and helps reduce the chances of hitting the ground with the clubhead.

Analyze Your Setup Position

Start by standing with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and your weight not favoring either side. Next, make sure you bend from your hips and not your back, and keep your knees slightly bent.

Finally, set your eyes directly over the golf ball, keeping your shoulders square to the aim line. Remember to stand tall, as this will help to achieve an optimal backswing. Practicing this setup position until it becomes second nature will help you become better and more consistent.

Develop a Consistent Swing Speed

To develop a consistent swing speed, you should practice the basic setup procedures of your body position. Maintain a stable positioned lower body during your stroke while at the same time making sure you don’t alternate your arm positions. Make sure to keep your wrists firm and keep your upper arms and elbows close to your body.

Focus on keeping your hands and arms working as one unit, as this will ensure that you hit the ball with a consistent speed. Make sure to practice repetitions with short putts, which will help you develop a better feel for the proper speed and impact. Lastly, keep your focus on the ball and try to keep your swing smooth and steady.

Practice Your Aiming and Stroke Movement

Start by lying down a flat surface and setting up two cones or targets on either side. Then, place five golf balls on the surface and a putter near the balls.

To begin, select a ball, stance, and aim towards one of the targets using the putter. Visualize the path the ball should take and the spot where it should land on the target.

When ready, practice swinging the putter and following through with the stroke. Take note of how each putt moves through the air and adjust your posture or the amount of power used for the next putt, if necessary. Upon completing the practice session, you should begin to feel more comfortable with aiming and moving the putter.

Use Technology

You can find help from technology using golf gear like a golf radar device. These devices can be used to measure the speed and distance of your putts, giving you real-time data on your performance. Additionally, many models allow you to focus on a specific skill and measure your progress.

As an added benefit, you can use golf radar devices to check the roll of the green during a round. It lets you know if the putting surface is breaking in a certain direction or not.
