When you design your clothing line, you’re opening yourself up to endless possibilities. You can customize fabrics, prints, and designs. All that’s left is to figure out how to get people to identify your products as yours.

One way to do this is by using clothing labels. If you want to learn how to make clothing labels, keep reading.

We’ll show you how to start your clothing line by creating your labels.

Design

Good design is fundamental to creating influential clothing label printing. A clear, thought-out concept should be the starting point of the process. It’s essential to think through the type of label desired–whether it’s a classic woven label, a modern printed one, or a plain hang tag.

You’ll then need to think about what type of material to use, the exact dimensions of the label, the color theme, font size, and font type. You can create your label once you have a concept and have all the details set.

You’ll need to extract logos, words, or images and then arrange them accurately on the template. If you want a clothing tag design, check out these custom woven labels for clothes.

Research

Research is essential to any project, especially when creating clothing labels. Before a project is brought to life, a designer must take the time to research the design, production, and market trends to ensure a successful product.

This involves exploring the design process from concept to completion, with materials selection, manufacturing options, label artwork, sizing, color palettes, and finishes.

Researching the production and manufacturing process is also essential as it will help determine costs, timelines, and the best vendors. Additionally, researching current trends and customer needs will help guide the development process.

Production

Once these components have been settled, the next step is to source or create a design template. From here, the actual printing or production of the label is done. This involves printing a proof of the label to be approved and selecting appropriate substrates for the label, such as cotton, polyester, or linen.

Once the label is produced, the last and final step for creating the clothing label is to finish it with tags, loops, and other necessary components. Thus, there is a lot to consider and take into account when producing clothing labels.

Finishing

The most common finishing technique is heat-sealing, in which a hot metal plate applies pressure to adhesives on the label and fabric. This is a quick and economical way to attach labels to clothing. However, other methods, such as stitching, ultrasonic welding, and pressure-sensitive adhesives, can be used.

Inspecting the garment as a whole is essential once the merchandise is finished with a label. This includes checking the garment’s appearance and the label’s functionality.

Marketing

When the label is ready for production, material and colors are chosen and placed into a manufacturing contract. After these steps are completed, the label is ready for marketing – placed on pieces to increase brand visibility and create a professional look. A brand’s marketing efforts can be effective and successful with an appealing and informative clothing label.
