Traffic fatalities increased by 7% even when fewer vehicles travel nowadays. Regardless of your experience level, you are at risk of getting into an accident. However, investing in driving essentials can mitigate your chances of experiencing a car crash.

Fortunately, our ultimate vehicle safety checklist ensures your vehicle is in peak condition before hitting the road. Continue reading to become a smart driver now.

Start with Your Tires

Before starting your car, check the condition of your tires. Check the pressure to ensure every tire has the right level. Insufficient pressure leads to performance issues and hastens wear and tear.

Uneven wear signals a timely tire rotation. If you have an old car, replace the tires every decade. Make sure the tread depth is above 3mm.

Around 11,000 motor vehicle crashes stem from tire-related problems. It translates to about 600 annual fatalities.

Check all the Fluids

Never leave home without checking your car fluid levels. Check the oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, wiper fluid, power steering fluid, and radiator. Top them as soon as they reach low levels.

Ensure Working Lights and Wipers

Aside from the headlights, your brake lights, tail lights, turn signals, and hazard lights should be functional. If any show signs of dysfunction, replace them as soon as possible.

Some car crashes happen because of busted headlights. Approaching vehicles may not see you at night, resulting in a collision.

Aside from lights, make sure your wipers are in good condition. Driving in the rain with old wipers can cause your windshield to become blurry.

Examine the Belts and Hoses

Open your car hood and examine the belts and hoses in and around the engine. Check for cracks, frays, exposed threads, or leaks. These can lead to car malfunction on the road, putting you at risk for an accident.

Examine the radiator hose and check its rigidity. The hose should be flexible and should not stick together after pinching.

Good Battery Condition

Complete your vehicle safety checklist by looking at the battery condition. Check the terminals for corrosion around them.

Listen to your car when starting it for signs of struggle. If it takes several attempts to start the car, consider getting a new battery.

Final Reminders

Responsible car ownership extends beyond your safety. It should cover the people riding in your car and everyone on the road.

Always buckle up before starting your vehicle. Never drive after drinking alcohol or experiencing drowsiness.

Learn when to file a lawsuit after a vehicular accident. There are time limits to ensure your lawsuit eligibility.

Make a Vehicle Safety Checklist Now

Following this vehicle safety checklist allows you to reduce the risk of getting into an accident. You can also ensure your car’s performance in the long run.

However, having a car safety checklist is not the only essential practice in vehicle ownership. Study more ways to maintain your car. Look for reputable auto repair shops in your area to maximize your investment.
