Considerations when Choosing Your Dream Electric Car

With a correctly formulated request, it is possible to understand whether you need an electric car, and if so, which model it should be. Undoubtedly, everyone has heard of electric cars. There are more of them on the roads because conventional vehicles are replenished with electric ones at a fairly rapid pace.

However, not all drivers are familiar with all the nuances of operating this type of whip, which in some cases can lead to disappointment. So, for your EV to meet your needs, we have prepared this guide to help you find your jewel in the crown.

The place to Charge your Vehicle

Every day we use a large number of electronic devices including smartphones, tablets, and laptops, and they are charged regularly. Usually, it takes around 2-3 hours to recharge the average gadget. In some cases, this creates a misconception about battery-powered cars, as if their charging requires only a home outlet and the same time costs.

In practice, everything is somewhat different: the battery capacity of an electric car cannot be compared with any of the portable devices. On average, it ranges from 20 to 100 kWh, that is, an energy reserve sufficient to power a small apartment for several days up to a couple of weeks. Accordingly, to regularly recharge such a volume of energy at home, you need an appropriate power supply, preferably grounding, and, of course, a place where the charger will connect your outlet to the car for a fairly long time.

For instance, overnight (10 hours) recharge, provided charging from a household outlet, with a charging adapter with a capacity of 2 kW (~10A), the capacity of the car will be replenished by approximately 60 miles in the morning. If more is needed, a more powerful line will be needed too. Probably, you should consider a three-phase charger, the price of which can reach $1000.

Simultaneously, despite the relatively low power, or rather, the charging speed in miles per hour, a household outlet is one of the desirable options if you have one in a private house, garage, or in the courtyard of a high-rise building, which is used by electric car owners by agreement with other residents.

Prices and models to Select from

The most affordable electric cars with mileage usually can move independently for a distance of 60 miles after which they need to be charged again. As a rule, starting prices for such cars are usually in the range of $6,000 to $15,000. These are models such as the Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus EV, Renault ZOE, KIA Soul EV, Smart ED, Volkswagen e-Golf, BMW i3, Fiat 500e, and 1others.

Let’s consider the example of Volkswagen. Volkswagen Golf is a legendary hatchback that is among the top 10 most popular cars in the world. However, just a few people know this model can also be purchased in an electric version. The electric car based on the Golf is called the e-Golf. On a single charge, the new generation of e-Golf can travel up to 200 miles.

Keep in mind that the battery is one of the most expensive components in an EV. To illustrate, a new one costs around $5,000, and a used one costs $1,500.

As well, keep in mind diverse electric engines and test drives before making a final decision. This helps to evaluate the convenience, handling, and overall feel of EVs as well as determine which model best suits your needs and preferences.

Car Auctions to Consider

Across the US, buying a car through auctions is a magic wand for many. A great number of customers search for a good deal. However, before making a final decision, it is important to weigh all the pros of this decision.

The main pro is significant savings. As a rule, cars sold at auctions are usually priced remarkably below market value. This can apply to both brand-new and used cars. Thus, you have a chance to purchase cars of well-familiar brands at an attractive price, which is especially essential for those looking for premium cars.

The second advantage is a wide selection of cars. At American auctions, you can find cars of various makes, models, and trim levels. The choice ranges from small cars to SUVs, electric cars, and sports cars. For instance, California salvage car auction offers exciting options for every electric buyer, pointing out the initial bid and being fully licensed.

The third perk is the opportunity to find rare or special versions of electric cars. Some models that are complicated to find on the European market may be available at auctions in the USA at a lower price than at official dealers.

So, buying an electric car through US auctions can be profitable, but it also requires a careful approach and consideration of all possible risks.
