What are the career opportunities after pursuing M.Sc. Mathematics?

The scope and applicability of Mathematics are immense, it is just not limited to the areas of science, technology, and engineering but also encompasses various other fields such as medicine, business, commerce, and finance. We need experts in maths as industrial fields related to science, technology, and engineering cannot thrive without practitioners having a solid mathematics foundation. The career options with a degree in mathematics are abundant but it ultimately comes down to the student’s area of interest and inclination towards a particular specialized area.

Data scientist: In this job role, you just have to design, observe and study information acquired from controlled laboratory-based investigations and experiments and submit a report to support your findings. To excel as a data scientist, you need to acquire excellent programming skills with maths modelling experience and great knowledge of experimental statistics.

Data analyst: This job role requires a mix of mathematics, machine learning, statistics, and programming. The experts in this field study the market numbers and incorporate the changes in their strategies, to get a positive outcome from a set goal. Analysing the market conditions and dealing with the situations with a mathematical approach is what a data analyst does.

Scientist: With a master’s in mathematics degree you can choose to be a scientist engaging in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge that could somehow define the natural world. A good grounding in mathematics will enable you to develop and hone skills related to designing experiments, posing hypothesis, recognizing patterns, control or analysing data, seeking evidence, conclusions, solving problems and seeking absolutes.

Mathematician: If you are good with numbers and are interested in using advanced concepts and methods related to Mathematics to develop and comprehend mathematical principles and solve real-world problems in government, business, engineering, and social sciences, then a degree in maths is all you need.

Banker: This is one of the most obvious career options for a postgraduate student in mathematics. Banking job includes market research, developing financial models, financial assets and liabilities.

Actuarial: You have to advise clients on managing their finances by evaluating the financial risks. Insurance, healthcare sectors, banks, and so many other organizations need to consult actuarial before investing in the market.

Statistician: If you have the skills to crunch numbers, interpret, collect and analyse data to reach valuable conclusions, then this job is perfect for you. They present reports which add value to the business and help managers make better business decisions.

Mathematics imparts the critical ability to learn and think logically in any field of endeavour. Studying mathematics not only develops more engineers and scientists but also advances individuals to learn and think creatively and critically.
