A 56-year-old man in Borgo Virgilio, northern Italy, is under investigation for fraud and concealing a body after allegedly impersonating his deceased mother to keep collecting her pension.
According to authorities, the man wore a wig, makeup, women’s clothing, and jewelry to pose as his 85-year-old mother, Graziella Dall’Oglio, when he visited a municipal office to renew her identity card.
A vigilant staff member noticed inconsistencies — such as his thick neck, unusually smooth skin, and a voice that occasionally dropped to a masculine tone — triggering a closer investigation.
When police later searched his home, they discovered Graziella’s mummified body hidden in a laundry room, wrapped in sheets and tucked inside a sleeping bag.
The man is said to have continued collecting his mother’s pension for around three years after her death, while also benefiting from other family assets, including three properties, for a reported annual income of approximately €53,000.
He now faces charges including benefit fraud, identity deception, and illegal concealment of a corpse. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact timeline and circumstances of his mother’s death.
