Singer Miguel Bose To Be Honored As The 2013 Latin Recording Academy Person Of The Year

The Latin Recording Academy® will Host the Star-Studded Tribute at The Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas on Wednesday, November 20.
MIAMI (May 8, 2013) — Latin GRAMMY^® winner Miguel Bosé has been named the 2013 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year it was announced today by The Latin Recording Academy^®. Chosen for his philanthropic and professional accomplishments, Bosé will receive the honor at a star-studded concert and tribute gala on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The celebration will feature many songs from Bose’s catalog performed by an impressive array of notable artists and friends. A portion of the net proceeds from the gala will benefit The Latin Recording Academy’s outreach and education programs. The prestigious event will precede the 14th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards^®, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. With a career that spans more than three decades, Spanish singer, author and actor Miguel Bosé has recorded more than 30 albums, made appearances in more than 35 films and his numerous chart-topping singles, such as “Anna,” “Salamandra,” “Te Amaré,” “Amante Bandido,” “Sevilla,” “Como Un Lobo,” “Morenamía,” and “Si Tu No Vuelves” made him an international pop star. His albums have gone on to receive certified platinum status throughout Latin America, Spain and Europe and he has garnered several awards, including a Latin GRAMMY for his 2001 album Sereno. Throughout his impressive career, Bosé has worked with a vibrant list of talented artists, including Gloria Gaynor, Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, Malú, Ricky Martin, Laura Pausini, Paulina Rubio, Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Michael Stipe, and Julieta Venegas.

Over the years, Bosé has not only contributed monetarily to various charitable organizations but has also donated his time, talent and voice to various social projects and environmental causes. Through his Foundation Paz Sin Fronteras (Peace Without Borders), he fights for the right to live in peace and for it to recognized by the United Nations. To bring international awareness to the cause, he organized concerts with various talented artists in places such as Cúcuta (on the border between Colombia and Venezuela) and La Habana, Cuba. In 2009 he joined the CIE Foundation and became the godfather of one of its programs, Aldeas Musicales— schools in indigenous villages that provide education and teach Spanish, a trade and how to play an instrument. Bosé also organizes a grand gala in Barcelona to raise funds for the foundation Fight Against AIDS, an effort for which he was recognized with Aid For Aids’ My Hero Award. Additionally, he is dedicated to protecting marine life through various projects such as Oceana, the largest international organization that focuses on ocean conservation, and the campaign Hugh’s Fish Fight, which is dedicated to protecting dwindling fish stocks. In 2010 he received honorary Colombian citizenship for his efforts towards peace.

As the 2013 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year honoree, Bosé joins a list of past recipients that includes Plácido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, Vicente Fernandez, Juan Luis Guerra, Carlos Santana, Shakira, and Caetano Veloso, among many others.

14th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards To Air On The Univision Network Will Heat Up Las Vegas Nov. 21

Latin Music’s Hottest Night to Broadcast Live on the Univision Network from Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Nomination for this Year’s Awards will be Announced from Los Angeles on Sept. 25, 2013.

German Perez Named Official Artist For The XIII Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards To Air Nov. 15, 2012 at 8p.m. ET/7 Central on Univision

The Latin Recording Academy® and the New York-based Artist Unveiled Artwork at Today’s Nominations Announcement in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, September 25, 2012 The Latin Recording Academy announced that German Pérez has been named the official artist of the XIII Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards^® (www.latingrammy.com). Pérez’s artwork will be proudly used as the official image for the world’s premier Latin music event and will grace the cover of the XIII Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards invitation, show tickets, poster, program book, and other important applications. The commissioned artwork was unveiled today in Los Angeles at a press conference, announcing this year’s Latin GRAMMY nominations.

“It is always a pleasure to introduce an artist from the Latin community whose work embodies the essence of Latin music and the creative nature of our organization, and I am proud to say German Pérez has captured and created the exuberance of both for this year’s official Latin GRAMMY image,” said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy.” The vibrant use of his color palette along with the graphic image of Latin music’s most prestigious award evoke a celebratory enthusiasm while promoting the diversity of our musical past and setting the tone for its future.”

Hailing from the Dominican Republic and relocating to New York in the ’80s, Pérez became involved in the pop art and graffiti art movements of the decade. He quickly incorporated the use of these contemporary mediums into his artistic work, which is based on modern interpretations of his native homeland’s cultural roots of Afro-Caribbean and Taino Indian history. He is known for his versatility and wide and creative range of media, experimenting with photography, drawing, sculpture, graphics, and video and TV production. Pérez’s paintings exude vibrancy through his use of primary colors and capture narrative motifs that juxtapose a playfulness of mystery, sensuality and magic. Pérez has held a total of 28 solo exhibitions worldwide and has represented the Dominican Republic at European art biennials in France, Norway, Spain, and Hungary. Extending his creative reach, he has illustrated book covers for authors Julia Alvarez, Kathy Engel and Sergio Troncoso; made an illustration for Juan Luis Guerra’s Ojala Que Llueva Café album; co-produced the album of Dominican folklorist Boni Raposo; and musically performed with guitarist Juan Francisco Ordoñez.

This year’s Latin GRAMMY Awards process registered a record-breaking more than 7,500 submissions over a 12-month eligibility period (Jul. 1, 2011 – June. 30, 2012), and all members of The Latin Recording Academy were able to submit entries for consideration through an online entry process for the first time. Latin GRAMMY ballots for the final round of voting will be mailed on Oct. 2 to the voting members of The Latin Recording Academy. They are due back to the accounting firm Deloitte by Oct. 23, when they will be tabulated and the results kept secret until the XIII Latin GRAMMY telecast. This year, for the first time, The Latin Recording Academy and Spotify will be working together to offer voting members and all music fans the opportunity to listen to nominated music for the XIII Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards. The XIII Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be supported on radio via Univision Radio (the official Spanish-language radio network of the Latin GRAMMY Awards), and highlighted on the Internet at www.latingrammy.com andwww.univisionmusica.com, featuring video interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from today’s nominations announcement. Additionally, the telecast will be distributed internationally to more than 100 countries.

The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences presents the XIII Annual Latin Grammy Awards Nominations for 2012

On September 25, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. the XIII Annual Grammy Awards nominations were announced at the lovely Belasco Theater located at 1050 South Hill Street in Los Angeles. Each year, The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. honors excellence in Latin music internationally. The Academy is an international, membership-based organization comprised of Spanish and Portuguese speaking recording artist, musicians, songwriters, producers and creative technical recording professionals. TheLatinAcademyis dedicated to improving the quality of life for Latin music.

More than 7,500 submissions were sent over a 12-month eligibility period (July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012).  It was registered as a record breaking amount.

A selected amount of artists were chosen to join the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc., to announce nominations for the year.  Maria  Barracuda (Pop/rock group), Jotdog: Miquel “Slow” Martinez and Carlos “Tostao” Valencia of Latin Grammy, winning singer/songwriter Kany Garcia, Winning pop duo Jesse & Joy, 17-time Latin Grammy winner Juanes, two-time Latin Grammy winner singer/songwriter Gian Marco, winning pop group Reik, Norteno band Los Tucanes de Tijuana, and pop/rock artist Ana Victoria.   Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of the Latin Recording Academy and Univision personality Giselle Blondet as well joined the announcers. Some of the announcers also received nominations.  Juanes received four nominations, Jesse & Joy received five, Reik also receive a nomination.  How exciting it was for them to hear their names during the press conference that they have been selected for their music.   Juan Luis Guerra tops the nominations with six.

The official artist selected this year is German Perez. The native Dominican Republic relocated to New York in the 80s which he became involved in pop art and graffiti art movements. He is well known for his versatility in photography, drawing, sculpture, graphics and video and TV production.

The nominations announced today are only a few. There are 47 categories within 18 fields featuring a diverse selection of artist that will be announced when the award show airs November 15, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. at the popular Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Event Center.  The show will be broadcast live on the Univision Network. Univision Continues as the Official Home Of The Latin GRAMMY®s through 2018. New Agreement Also Includes the Addition of New Latin GRAMMY Specials.

MIAMI (June 26, 2012 ) — The Latin Recording Academy® (www.latingrammy.com) and Univision announced a new six-year deal that will keep the biggest night in Latin music, the annual Latin GRAMMY Awards® telecast, on Univision through 2018. Univision has been the home of the Latin GRAMMY®s since 2005. This year’s XIII Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas from 8 – 11 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).

The Latin GRAMMY Awards telecast is one of Univision’s most watched events, ranking as its highest-rated special. Last year’s 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY telecast was watched by 11.1 million viewers in the U.S. who tuned in to all or part of the live three-hour broadcast on the Univision Network. The show delivered an average audience of 5.7 million total viewers 2+ and positioned Univision as the No. 1 broadcast network for the entire night among adults 18–34 for the second consecutive year. The 12th Latin GRAMMYs also generated more than 25 million impressions on Twitter throughout the evening, helping the Latin GRAMMYs and Univision win the night for social TV as well. Additionally, the Latin GRAMMY Awards on Univision continue to attract more Hispanic viewers in the demographic groups of total viewers 2+, adults 18–49 and adults 18–34 than the combined audiences of the biggest awards shows on primetime television. The Latin Recording Academy 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards Performers and Presenters Announced‏

On Monday, October 24, 2011 The Latin Recording Academy announced that Calle 13, Franco De Vita with Alejandra Guzmán, Maná with Prince Royce, Shakira, Sie7e, and Marco Antonio Solís are the first performers for the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY^® Awards (www.latingrammy.com) telecast. Cristián de la Fuente and Lucero will co-host the Latin music industry’s premier event and confirmed to present are actors Angelique Boyer, Sandra Echeverría, AdamariLópez, Sebastián Rulli, Zoe Saldana, and David Zepeda. Shakira named 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year

On Monday, September 26, 2011 The Latin Recording Academy announced three-time current Latin GRAMMY nominee, seven-time Latin GRAMMY winner, two-time GRAMMY winner, and international superstar and philanthropist Shakira will be the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. 

Shakira, who is currently nominated for three Latin GRAMMY Awards, including Album Of The Year, will be honored for her renowned artistic and philanthropic contributions at a tribute dinner and star-studded concert on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Mandalay BayConvention Center in Las Vegas. Songs from Shakira’s still growing catalog will be performed by notable artists and friends of the honoree. A major portion of the net proceeds from the gala will benefit Shakira’s Pies Descalzos Foundation as well as The Latin Recording Academy’s Latin GRAMMY in the Schools educational efforts.

The celebration will precede the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central.

Born in Colombia, Shakira showed early talent in school as a live performer, demonstrating her vocal ability already combining rock, Latin and Mediterranean influences with her own original twist on belly dancing. As a singer/songwriter, dancer, producer and musician, she emerged on the international music scene in the early ’90s. In 1996, Shakira released Pies Descalzos, featuring the hit singles “Estoy Aqui” and “Se Quiere…Se Mata” both topping the BillboardLatin Pop Airplay chart. Her next album, Dónde Están Los Ladrones?proved an even bigger success. Following was the release of her first live album in 2000, Shakira: MTV Unplugged, which spawned her first GRAMMY Award^® for Best Latin Pop Album. At the inaugural Latin GRAMMY Awards ceremony in 2000, Shakira received her first two Latin GRAMMY Awards. Without skipping a beat, she released her first crossover album, Laundry Service, in 2001, which became the most successful album of her career to date. Her next, Fijacíon Oral Vol. 1, in 2005, featured the hit single “La Tortura” with singer/songwriter and musician Alejandro Sanz. The album and single earned her four Latin GRAMMY Awards. Shortly thereafter, she released Oral Fixation Vol. 2, which included the worldwide hit “Hips Don’t Lie” in collaboration with musician/producer Wyclef Jean. In 2009, she released She Wolf and quickly following on the heels of that project she released Sale e Sol in 2010. In addition to her busy recording schedule, Shakira has taken the world by storm with many successful global concert tours.

Shakira’s numerous philanthropic efforts began at age 18when she founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a charity providing special schools for underprivileged children throughout Colombia. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, chosen for her involvement in global issues and her deep commitment to helping children. As an advocate for universal education, she served as Honorary Chairperson for the Global Campaign for Education, generating awareness for the U.S. Education for All Act in 2007. She has performed at many benefit concerts, and at the 2007 Clinton Global Initiative, Shakira received a commitment of $40 million from the Spanish government to help the victims of natural disasters. An additional $5 million was to be donated to four Latin American countries, to be spent on education and health. In its December 2008/January 2009 issue, People En Español announced Shakira as the “Humanitarian of the Year” as part of its Las Estrellas del Año (Stars of the Year) awards. On her 32nd birthday, Shakira opened a new $6 million school in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, which she sponsored along with her Pies Descalzos Foundation.


Shakira will have the distinction of becoming the youngest artist to receive the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year honoree. She joins a list of artists that includes Plácido Domingo, Carlos Santana Gloria Estefan, Gilberto Gil, Julio Iglesias, and Ricky Martin, among others.

Miguel Paredes Named Official Artist for the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards

On Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 8:00 am The Latin Recording Academy announced in a press conference at the Nominees for the 12th Annual Latin Grammys Awards that Miguel Paredes has been named the official artist of the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards.  Paredes’ artwork will be proudly used as the official image for the world’s premier Latin music event and will grace the cover of the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards invitation, show tickets, poster, program book, and other important applications.

“In keeping with the progressive nature of our organization and the ever-evolving climate of Latin music, it is with great pleasure that we introduce Paredes’ contemporary piece to the roster of incredible artists who have created indelible images on behalf of the Latin GRAMMYs,” said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy. “The combination of Paredes’ trend-forward techniques and pop art style creates a visually stunning use of colors interwoven with a complexity of graphic imagery that culminates in a creative array centered against Latin music’s most prestigious award.”


A native of New York, Paredes studied at the famed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts furthered his art education with a mentorship with pop artist and assistant to Andy Warhol, Ronnie Cutrone. He later followed with an apprenticeship with conceptual artist Paul Kus. Ever influenced by his street roots, his inspiration is drawn from a multitude of aspects including his children, nature, Japanese animation, graffiti, and pop culture, all of which are largely prevalent in his juxtapositions of organic realism with urban themes. His unlimited creativity is focused on mixed media and conceptual art and is expressed in media such as canvas, metal, wood, cloth, and digital. He is the owner of Miguel Paredes Fine Art Gallery in Miami and has received simultaneous proclamations from the city of Miami Beach and the Village of Pinecrest honoring his support of historic preservation, citywide devotion and positive community impact. He was featured as the artist-in-residence at the National Hotel during 2010 Art Basel Miami Beach, converting the iconic landmark into the Miguel Paredes National Gallery.

On Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 8:00 am The Latin Recording Academy announced in a press conference the Nominees for the 12th Annual Latin Grammys Awards at Avalon Hollywood located at 1735 N. Vine Street in Hollywood, CA 90028. The artists reading nominations this morning included: Lena Burke and Jorge Villamizar of Latin pop trio Alex, Jorge Y Lena; urban/hip-hop duo Calle 13; Latin GRAMMY-winning producer Desmond Child; singer/songwriter Myriam Hernández; pop singer Merche; Norteño band Los Tucanes de Tijuana; Latin pop singer Reyli; and Ángel Mosqueda and Rodrigo Guardiola of alternative rock band Zoé.

The 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, set for Nov. 10 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, will be broadcast live on the Univision Network from 8 – 11 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).

This year’s Album Of The Year nominees features some of the most prominent names in Latin music: Alex, Jorge Y Lena for Alex, Jorge Y Lena; Calle 13 for Entren Los Que Quieran; Franco De Vita for En Primera Fila; Enrique Iglesias for Euphoria; and Shakira for Sale El Sol.

The race for Record Of The Year features a diverse array of musical styles and artists: “Latinoamérica” by Calle 13; “Tan Sólo Tú” by Franco De Vita with Alejandra Guzmán; “Gritar” by Luis Fonsi; “Golpes En El Corazón” by Los Tigres Del Norte; and “Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tú” by Ricky Martin featuring Natalia Jiménez.

The Best New Artist category highlights some of the brightest newcomers from around the Latin music world: Pablo Alborán (Spain), Max Capote (Uruguay/Argentina), Paula Fernandes (Brazil), Il Volo (Italy), and Sie7e (Puerto Rico).

The 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will feature 46 categories and will be supported on radio via Univision Radio (the official Spanish-language radio network of the Latin GRAMMY Awards), and highlighted on the Internet at www.latingrammy.com and www.latingrammy.univision.com, featuring video interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from today’s nominations announcement. Additionally, the telecast will be distributed internationally to more than 100 countries.

A limited number of tickets to the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be available for sale to the public starting Sept. 15, and may be purchased at the Mandalay Bay Events Center box office (877.632.7400; www.mandalaybay.com) or through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).
