Feature Film The Ferret Squad to Film Trailer in Langley, British Columbia, Canada

Family Film About Kids Rescuing Ferrets In California Shooting in Langley.
On Friday, August 3, 2012 — Canadian film director, Alison Parker, is bringing her cast and crew for the upcoming feature film The Ferret Squad to Langley, British Columbia, Canada to film a promotional trailer for the film, which is slated to begin production this month.

The trailer will be filmed over four days, August 6, 7, 8 & 9 and the final product will run approximately three minutes. The promotional trailer will then be shown to potential investors in the hopes that they will want to contribute to the making of the feature.

“We will be filming at locations in Langley and Fort Langley for the trailer. I’m especially excited about filming in Fort Langley. It’s a great little town with a lot of character and a wide variety of shooting locations, houses, scenery, etc. It’s a very popular place to film. The first day we went on a location scout, we saw them filming Once Upon a Time. The second time we went, they were filming Psych,” says Parker.

The Ferret Squad is a family-friendly feature that tells the story of Max Jones, played by Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale star Connor Stanhope (Connor also played the role of young “Lex Luthor” on the TV series Smallville) In the story, Max is a teenage boy who must move to California with his father, Ben (Canadian Award Winning Actor Chad Willett, The Locket, Joan of Arc); he then realizes that Digger, his pet ferret, won’t be able to come along because ferrets are illegal. Max finds a way to sneak Digger across the border, and thinks his troubles are over. In his new home state, Max meets and joins forces with a group of quirky kids known as “The Ferret Squad” who spend their summer days rescuing and fostering illegal ferrets. When Animal Control plans to destroy some confiscated ferrets, Max and the Ferret Squad go on a desperate mission to save the poor animals by transporting them across the border with the law and their parents in hot pursuit.

The movie also boasts an impressive cast that includes, in addition to Stanhope and Willett, Canadian Award Winning actress Julia Benson (best known as “Lt Vanessa James” on the TV Series SGU Stargate Universe), Canadian Award Winning Actor Cainan Weibe, whose acting credits include roles in The Sandlot 3 (“Ryan”), Sucker Punch (“Tommy Boy”), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (“Newborn Boy”), Falling Skies (“Marshall”), and Diary of a Wimpy Kid (“Quentin”), Eric McNamee (“Gus” on the Cartoon Network’s “Level Up”), Clive Holloway (“Maurice” on the UK TV Show “Beaver Falls”), Sean Michael Kyer (who has appeared on the TV shows “Alcatraz”, “Fringe” and “Continuum”), Dylan Schmid (“Baelfire” on the TV Series “Once Upon A Time”), Sierra Pitkin (Juno), Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale alumnus Blu Mankuma (“Harry Helmsley”, 2012), Award Winning Canadian Actress Gabrielle Rose (Excited), Michael Roberds (“Uncle Fester” on the TV Series The New Addams Family), Conner Dwelly (“Young Patricia Swan” on Smallville and “Morraine” on ABC TV’s Once Upon A Time), breakout star Emma Tremblay (will be starring with Matt Damon in the upcoming film Elysium) and Falcor the Ferret (Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale).

Benson Best Known From the TV Series “SGU Stargate Universe”

On Tuesday, August 1, 2012, Canadian Film Director Alison Parker and her Casting Director, Travis Doering, are very pleased to announce that award winning actress Julia Benson has been cast in the feature film The Ferret Squad, which is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to begin filming in August of 2012.

Benson is best known for her role as “Lt. Vanessa James” on the TV Series SGU: Stargate Universe, for which she won a Leo Award. Other notable TV appearances include principal roles on Supernatural, Aliens In America, Whistler, The Evidence, Dead Zone, and Stargate Atlantis. Film roles include the recently wrapped Chupacabra Vs. The Alamo in which she stars with Erik Estrada (C.H.I.P.s). Other film highlights include lead roles in Road To Victory, Dinner with Friends, Zero Hour, Crazy Late, Mr Troop Mom, The Unquiet and Death Do Us Part, which she also produced and co-starred with her husband, actor Peter Benson.

Benson has been cast in the role of “Marcie” in The Ferret Squad. When Animal Control plans to destroy some confiscated ferrets, Max and the Ferret Squad go on a desperate mission to save the poor animals by transporting them across the border with the law and their parents in hot pursuit.

Marcie (Benson) is at a crossroads in her life. She’s moved on from her messy divorce and is looking forward to the future, but she’s overworked, and often too busy to take time for her kids. She values her job at the California Fish and Game and will do whatever it takes to keep it, even if it means turning in her kids, Ferret Squad members Frankie and Stanley, for harboring illegal ferrets. When Marcie meets Ben, she’s surprised to find herself attracted to him. But Ben’s not interested in her advances and Marcie’s feelings get hurt. Things go from bad to worse when she loses her job because her kids (unbeknownst to her) are harboring and rescuing ferrets. Marcie is then forced to decide what’s most important in her life.

Benson joins an impressive cast that includes in addition to Stanhope and Willett, Canadian Award Winning Actor Cainan Weibe, whose acting credits include roles in The Sandlot 3 (“Ryan”), Sucker Punch (“Tommy Boy”), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (“Newborn Boy”), Falling Skies (“Marshall”), and Diary of a Wimpy Kid (“Quentin”), Eric McNamee (“Gus” on the Cartoon Network’s “Level Up”), Clive Holloway (“Maurice” on the UK TV Show “Beaver Falls”), Sean Michael Kyer (who has appeared on the TV shows “Alcatraz”, “Fringe” and “Continuum”), Dylan Schmid (“Baelfire” on the TV Series “Once Upon A Time”), Sierra Pitkin (Juno), Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale alumnus Blu Mankuma (“Harry Helmsley”, 2012), Award Winning Canadian Actress Gabrielle Rose (Excited), Michael Roberds (“Uncle Fester” on the TV Series The New Addams Family) and Falcor the Ferret (Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale).

Four Young Actors Cast in Feature Movie The Ferret Squad

Send one of a Million Smiles this Summer with flowers & gifts starting at $29.99 at 1800flowers.com. - 180x150
Dylan Schmid, Sean Michael Kyer, Erik McNamee and Clive Holloway join The Ferret Squad.

On Tuesday, July 10, 2012 — Canadian film director, Alison Parker, and her Casting Director, Travis Doering, are pleased to announce that four young actors have been cast in roles in the soon-to-be filmed feature movie The Ferret Squad, which is slated to begin production in August, 2012 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The four young actors chosen after the first round of auditions are: Eric McNamee, Clive Holloway, Sean Michael Kyer and Dylan Schmid.
The Ferret Squad is a family-friendly feature that tells the story of Max Jones, played by Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale star Connor Stanhope (Connor also played the role of young “Lex Luthor” on the TV series Smallville).

In the story, Max is a teenage boy who must move to California with his father, Ben (Canadian Award Winning Actor Chad Willett, The Locket, Joan of Arc); he then realizes that Digger, his pet ferret, won’t be able to come along because ferrets are illegal.

Dylan Schmid has been cast in the role of “D.J.” Many people will recognize Schmid from the ABC hit television series “Once Upon A Time” on which he plays the part of “Baelfire”, the son of Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold (played by Robert Carlyle).

Young D.J. harbors an unrequited crush on Stanley’s sister, Frankie, and is quite jealous when young Max comes to town and steals the young beauty’s heart, but D.J. holds out hope that he and Frankie will one day have a more than platonic relationship.

While under D.J.’s watch, the Ferret Squad headquarters is damaged by bullies, thus causing the young lad to fret that he will be kicked out of the group by Frankie.

Eric McNamee will play the role of “Lunchmeat”. McNamee’s acting credits include the role of “Gus” on the Cartoon Network’s show “Level Up”.

“Lunchmeat” (real name: Pete) is the young, chubby outcast and sidekick to bully Nick. Together, they make The Ferret Squad’s lives miserable.

Clive Holloway, who plays ‘Maurice’ on the UK TV show “Beaver Falls”, joins The Ferret Squad cast as “Dhylan”.

Dhylan is Max’s best friend in Arizona. Dhylan finds a way to keep Max and Digger together as they travel to California. When Max lets Dhylan know that he needs him, he organizes a rescue at the border.

Sean Michael Kyer, who will tackle the part of “Stanley” has a resume that includes parts on the TV series “Alcatraz”, “Fringe” and “Continuum”.

Stanley is a young “techno” kid who lives and breathes computers–and ferrets. If it is technology or furry, Stanley loves it. Stanley has set up an intricate network to keep ferrets safe. Even though he is not able to own a ferret, he helps to rescue them.

Kyer has worked with Ferret Squad cast mates Gabrielle Rose and Chad Willett on the feature film “Everything and Everyone”.

In addition to Connor Stanhope and Chad Willett, these four young men join a cast that includes Sierra Pitkin (Juno) and Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale alumnus Blu Mankuma (“Harry Helmsley”, 2012), Award Winning Canadian Actress Gabrielle Rose (Excited, The Sweet Hereafter), Michael Roberds (“Uncle Fester” on the TV Series The New Addams Family) and Falcor the Ferret (Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale).

Fundraiser For The Ferret Squad Film Donates Over $1,100 To Legalize Ferrets

CharityUSA.com LLC
Percentage of Online Donations Goes to Organization Intent on Making Pet Ferrets Legal in CA.

On Wednesday, July 4, 2012, The Ferret Squad Media announced that over the past several months, Canadian Director, Alison Parker, has been using the online donation site www.Indiegogo.com to raise funds to make her next feature film, The Ferret Squad. The word about the movie spread over social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and by the end of the fundraising campaign in early June, 284 funders from all corners of the globe had donated over $25,000.00 toward the film. Parker had decided that since the movie’s central focus is the fact that pet ferrets are illegal in California, 5% of the net donations would be given to the group www.LegalizeFerrets.org — a group dedicated to making the domestic ferret legal.

Parker is pleased to announce that with the help of funders, the total donation to LegalizeFerrets.org totalled $1,110.94 USD.

“Thanks to the many supporters and contributors of The Ferret Squad, we were able to make a sizable donation to assist in the fight to Legalize Ferrets in California. Here’s hoping that the publicity from the film will also make a difference. This is a law that needs to be overturned as soon as possible. Ferrets are domesticated animals. They’re pets. They’re family,” declared Parker.

With the help of the fundraising efforts, Parker hopes to commence filming in August, 2012, in the Vancouver, British Columbia area.

The Ferret Squad tells the story of Max Jones, played by Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale star Connor Stanhope (Connor also played the role of young “Lex Luthor” on the TV series Smallville). In the story, Max is a teenage boy who must move to California with his father, Ben (Chad Willett); he then realizes that Digger, his pet ferret, won’t be able to come along because ferrets are illegal. NPIC, based out of Plano, Texas, began in 1996 as a biodegradable company focusing in the application of vegetable protein as an alternative to plastic and stryofoam based chew products for pets. In 1998, they developed the N-Bone® product line of long-lasting edible and digestible chew bones and treats. Since then, they have used their patented biodegradable technology to further develop safe and healthy biodegradable chew bones and treats. The Ferret Chew product was introduced in 2000. The N-Bone Ferret Chew Treat is one of the best selling ferret treats on the market. Made with high quality protein and low in fat, ash and magnesium, N-Bone Ferret Chew Treats are a long-lasting chewable toy that offer both functionality and benefits by removing plaque and tartar during chewing.

As Corporate Sponsor of the film, NPIC will have product placement of their ferret treats in the movie as well as their logo on the movie poster, the back of the DVD and will be linked on The Ferret Squad’s website.

The Ferret Squad is a coming of age tale about a young boy named Max (played by Connor Stanhope, known for his role as “Young Lex Luthor” on the TV Show Smallville and as “Jake” in Parker’s short film Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale) who wants to own a ferret. Before he can become a ferret owner, he is educated by a shelter owner named Olivia (played by Canadian Award Winning Actress Gabrielle Rose) about the responsibility of caring for the animal. The ferret, Digger, is being portrayed by Parker’s own ferret, Falcor, who fans might remember as “Jasper” from Jake And Jasper: A Ferret Tale. After obtaining the ferret, Max and his father move to California. After moving to his new home, Max joins up with a group of kids known as “The Ferret Squad” whose mission is to rescue ferrets.

The Ferret Squad is slated to begin filming in Canada in the Summer of 2012. Monday, June 11, 2012 – Canadian director of The Ferret Squad Alison Parker and her Casting Director Travis Doering have proudly announced the casting of Gabrielle Rose and Michael Roberds in the new film, The Ferret Squad, currently fundraising to begin production in the Summer of 2012.

Gabrielle Rose will play a double role as Olivia and Belva, identical twins who, with the exception of their looks, are as different as night and day. Olivia operates a ferret shelter in Arizona while her sister Belva runs a local pet store. Michael Roberds will portray the evil Mr. Rathbone, the head of California’s Fish and Game Department.

The Ferret Squad is a family-oriented coming of age movie that follows a young boy named Max (Connor Stanhope, Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale and the TV series Smallville) who smuggles his pet ferret into California, where they are illegal. He befriends a group of kids who run an underground ferret rescue and adoption organization, and joins them in risky ferret rescue missions, while living under the watchful eye of California’s Fish and Game Commission. But when his secret is exposed, he must stand up for what he believes in and fight for what he loves, or risk losing his beloved pet forever. His beloved pet, a ferret named “Digger” will be portrayed by Stanhope’s Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale co-star, Falcor the Ferret.

When young Max encounters Belva at the pet store looking for a pet ferret, she introduces him to shelter mom Olivia, who entrusts the young teen with Digger, but not before the teen fully understands what is involved in ferret ownership and how much responsibility there is in caring for such an animal. Olivia emphasizes these important facts to Max and makes sure that he completely understands them before she will let him take Digger as his own.

Rose is a very well-known, award-winning Canadian actress with over 120 credits on her acting resume, whose accolades include, but are not limited to, a 2009 Leo Award for Best Guest Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series for: “Sanctuary” (2007) and a 2010 Leo Award (Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Feature Length Drama) for her role in 2009’s Excited.

“I’m extremely excited and honored to have Gabrielle Rose joining the cast of The Ferret Squad. I could not think of a more perfect or talented lady for the role, and I know she will do animal shelter owners proud with her portrayal of Olivia (and Belva). I’m also excited to see her in the scenes with [co-star] Blu Mankuma. They are friends in real life, so I think they’re really going to enjoy it,” enthuses Parker.

Michael Roberds (Mr. Rathbone), with over 65 acting credits to his name, is probably best known for his role as “Uncle Fester” on the 1990s Television Series The New Addams Family. He also had roles in the 2003 film Elf, which starred Will Ferrell, Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) and a role as “Donkey Driver” in the episode entitled “The Return” in the 2012 ABC-TV series Once Upon A Time.

Roberd’s character, Mr. Rathbone, is the President of the California Fish and Game Department, and he has one objective in mind — find the people who have ferrets and turn them in to Animal Control. In pursuing this almost obsessive goal, he manages to make the people around him miserable, most notably the young people of The Ferret Squad.

“I love that Michael Roberds will be playing our Mr. Rathbone, President of the California Fish & Game Dept.! Who better than Uncle Fester to play a sniveling snake!” laughs Parker.

Ms. Rose and Mr. Roberds join the other stars of The Ferret Squad: Connor Stanhope, Blu Mankuma (2012), Sierra Pitkin (Juno) and Falcor the Ferret.

The Ferret Squad is slated to begin filming in Canada in the Summer of 2012. People can find more information by visiting the film’s fan page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheFerretSquad or on their official site at www.theferretsquad.com

Director of Independent Feature Film Hopes to Raise Needed Funds by June 10, 2012.

On Monday, June 4, 2012, Canadian film director, Alison Parker, has been asking for help to fund her next project, a feature film entitled The Ferret Squad. In order to begin production this Summer, she needs to raise $50,000.00. Using the fundraising site IndieGoGo she began a campaign to raise money in order to shoot the movie. With one week left to meet the deadline of June 10, donations have reached a total nearing $17,000.00. While some corporations such as Ferret Depot and Ferret.com have donated money to the film, it is predominantly fans of Alison’s previous work, a 25-minute independent film entitled Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale who have donated most of the funds.

People who donate to The Ferret Squad can earn some very unique “perks” for their contributions. A list of perks and the amount required to earn them is on www.Indiegogo.com/TheFerretSquad. Perks include, but are not limited to, the rare opportunity to have one’s name mentioned in the film credits, limited edition “pawtographed” DVDs or even the chance to be listed as a Producer of the film. In addition, 5% of donated funds will be given to www.LeaglizeFerrets.org, a group trying to legalize ferrets as pets in the state of California.

Jake And Jasper: A Ferret Tale was released in 2011 and created a giant media buzz on networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. When Alison announced her plans to make a new movie about ferrets, this time a full-length feature, fans of her first ferret film jumped at the chance to help financially.

“Jake & Jasper was a great success! The only complaint I have ever received to this day is that it was too short! I think the fans will be very happy to know that The Ferret Squad is a 100 page script that will translate into roughly 100 minutes on screen.,” assures Parker.

This full length feature, The Ferret Squad is a family-oriented coming of age movie that follows a young boy named Max (Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale star Connor Stanhope) who smuggles his pet ferret into California, where they are illegal. He befriends a group of kids who run an underground ferret rescue and adoption organization, and joins them in risky ferret rescue missions, while living under the watchful eye of California’s Fish and Game Commission..

“The support I’ve received from the public has been amazing. I have even received an anonymous donation from a celebrity who is very pro ferrets and pro ferret legalization in California. It’s very exciting!” Parker enthuses.

The Ferret Squad, written by Sally Meyer (You’re So Cupid, Minor Details), aims to bring awareness to the ferret ban in California, as well as being one of the first films to show ferrets in a positive light. The film is slated to begin filming in August 2012 in Vancouver, Canada. Companies and individuals interested in supporting The Ferret Squad are encouraged to go to www.TheFerretSquad.com for more information about how to make a contribution.
