The World Series of Poker draws in poker players from around the world in a quest to win the ever-coveted gold championship bracelet.  As the popularity of poker has grown, players from all walks of life have taken up the game and among them are stars of music industry.  Let’s take a look at some of the music stars that have played at the World Series of Poker.

Rapper and R&B star Nelly has made headlines over the year for playing at the WSOP.  While he hasn’t made big money at the event as of yet, he did make headlines in 2010 when he made Day 2 of the event.  While that is far from the title, making it through Day 1 is a step that literally thousands of players fail to accomplish and it was a good first step.  Nelly is a regular at the poker tables in and around Vegas and he will likely be there this year.

Anthrax lead guitarist Scott Ian has been a regular at the WSOP Main Event for years now and has advanced past Day 1 of the event numerous times.  Ian has actually shown so much promise at the poker tables that he was tutored for a while by professional poker players Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke and even had a sponsorship with an online poker site.

However, the most successful musician to play the WSOP is Godsmack’s Sully Erna.  Erna has been coming to the WSOP for years and actually made the money of the Main Event in both 2006 and 2007.  His best finish was in 2007 where he place 237th.  While that does not sound like a huge accomplishment, Erna still pulled in over $45,000 for his finish.  Of course, that is still a far cry from the $8.25 Million that Champion Jerry Yang took home.

As poker continues to increase in popularity worldwide, don’t be surprised to see more music artist try their hand at the game.  Poker is said to have the adrenaline rush of performing in front of a 100,000 screaming fans, and the Millions at stake doesn’t hurt either.

The NAMM Show kicked-off the event with a media preview day on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 where Recording artist, singer and performer John Mayer made a special appearance, talked about Michelle Phillips signature guitars and even playing some music for the members of the media/press.

Also on media preview day David Honeywell from PianoDisc talked to us about a Piano called iQ Intelligent Player System which plays by itsself and can be operated from your choice of external devices, including popular devices like the iPad, iPod and MP3 players.

During the 4 day event many celebrity musicians attended various booths, stage events, signed autographs and even performed for their fans. Some of the recording artists and politicians the attended the largest and longest-running musical instruments and products trade show in the United States were John Mayer, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Tommy Lee, Jackson Browne, Steve Vai, Prakash Sontakke, Salar Nader, Bootsy Collins, George Benson, Bernie Williams, Jesse Spencer, Bob Guiney, Sheila E., Robert Benson, BT, Joe Santrani, System of A Down, Steve Morse, Scott Ian, Kerry King, Richard Divine, Lee Roy Parnell, Debby Holiday, Arnold G, Pepper Mashay, former Governor Mike Huckabee, and of course our Diversity News TV celebrity host FAWN and many more.

“We had a press event Wednesday night and we had a dealer party as well and those were very well received, we had a good turnout for that, so we’re having a very good show,” said Gloria Harris, Casio.  “A lot of booth traffic. We had scheduled a lot of appointments and people came out and they saw the product and they loved it. We’re excited for the new year.”

On Saturday, January 21st,  Fawn spoke with Lee Roy Parnell about his latestGibson guitar and and special impromptu performance for Jackson Browne. Also exhibitor Bee Bantug from Retail Up talked to us about her company services.

“The show was noticeably better in attendance this year,” said Rick Young, Yamaha Corporation of America. “We were consistently packed Thursday through Saturday and Sunday was better than in many of the last years. We had a good array of new products to show our dealers and  everyone was upbeat and hopeful. Now that we have the manufacturers and retailers excited, we have one more important group to get excited and that is consumers. Obtaining the mindshare and walletshare of consumers will be the key to success in 2012.”

Editor’s Note: Diversity News Magazine and TV covered the 2012 NAMM Show on 1-18-2012, 1-19-2012 and 1-21-2012 only.

We want to thanks the The Lippin Group for giving us the opportunity to cover the event.

In another note the people the need to be fire from Anaheim Convention Center are the Staff Prop, those people are very rude. When we drove on day 3 they made us go around from Katella to Disneyland Road to park and we walked by car park 4 and they would not allow to enter there so we have to go around. Diversity News TV crew have to pay to park because people from Staff Prop they did not care they told my crew that every one need to pay even they show them confirmation to cover event from public relations firm.

When we were leaving the venue they made us go to the underground floor and we have to walk during the night to the parking space. Please Anaheim Convention Center fire the Staff Prop people or train them to learn how to treat the media/press right.
