The New York Times is reporting that Jenni Rivera, the Mexican-American singer and reality television star known as “the Diva of Banda,” died early Sunday when the plane in which she was traveling crashed outside Monterrey, Mexico, after a performance there. She was 43.
“Mexican music runs through my veins,” Ms. Rivera told the trade magazine Billboard earlier this year. “That’s all I heard. I had no choice. We had our own music stands in the local swap meets. We sold cassette tapes at the time, and that’s how we made a living. We stepped it up a bit when my father opened his own record store and eventually started his own record label.”
Besides her brothers Guadalupe and Juan and her father, Ms. Rivera is survived by her mother, Rosa; three other siblings, Pedro Jr., Gustavo and Rosie; and her five children: Janney, Jacqueline and Michael, from her first marriage, to Jose Trinidad Marin, and Jenicka and Johnny, from her second marriage, to Juan Lopez.
About Jenny Dolores Rivera Saavedra[2] (July 2, 1969 – December 9, 2012), better known as Jenni Rivera, was an American singer known for her work within the banda and norteña music genres. She began recording in 1992, and her recordings often have themes of social issues, infidelity, and relationships. Her tenth studio album, Jenni (2008), became her first number-one album in the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States.
In 2010, she appeared in and produced the reality TV show Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C. She also appeared in and produced I Love Jenni starting in 2011 and Chiquis ‘n Control in 2012.
Rivera died in a plane crash near Iturbide, Nuevo León, Mexico, on December 9, 2012.[1][3]
Rest In Peace.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2012 FOX announced that multi-talented entertainer George Lopez will host TAKE ME OUT, the provocative and unpredictable new dating series premiering Thursday, June 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. TAKE ME OUT, based on the hugely successful international format, is a fast-paced, dynamic new series featuring 30 single women searching for a match and several brave bachelors who must make the ultimate first impression.
With an extensive career that encompasses television series, film, and standup comedy, Lopez will play matchmaker between the 30 female contestants and the men hoping for the chance to take one lucky lady out on an ultimate dream date.
“I am thrilled to be hosting such an entertaining new series,” said Lopez. “Anything can happen on a show like TAKE ME OUT and I’m looking forward to the excitement.”
“George’s amazing energy, spirit and incredible comedic timing make him the perfect host for TAKE ME OUT,” said executive producer Jeff Apploff.
Filmed in front of a studio audience and comprised of four rounds, TAKE ME OUT begins with a group of 30 beautiful, single women in search of finding a match made in heaven. Every week, the women are introduced to several bachelors one by one. Each woman stands at a lighted podium with a switch that controls her fate for a date: if she thinks it’s a match, she keeps her light on; if her attraction has been short-circuited, then it’s lights out and she waits for the next potential Mr. Right.
As the hopeful mate reveals more and more about himself, the women continue to turn their lights out as they lose interest—leaving only the flirty females still fascinated by him. At this point, the gentleman takes control of the game and eliminates the ladies by turning out the lights of those women he’s just not into. During the last round, the bachelor will pose one final question to the two remaining women and will choose a winner to join him on a romantic fantasy date. Meanwhile, the remaining 29, plus one new woman, return during the next game for another chance at finding the guy who will light up their lives.
