So it is now that we gather together and we want to wish to you a very “Merry Christmas and a Happy Safe New Year 2013”.

With customers like you, we find going to work each day a rewarding experience that gives us a special opportunity to extend our personal thanks to our friends, family, sponsors, customers, fans, partners, colleagues and our very best wishes for the future.

What is the meaning of Christmas:

Christmas (Old EnglishCrīstesmæsse, meaning “Christ‘s Mass“) is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ[6][7] and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December 25[3][4][5] by millions of people around the world.[8][2] A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days ofChristmastide.[9] Christmas is a civil holiday in many of the world’s nations,[10][11][12] is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians,[1][13][14] and is an integral part of theChristmas and holiday season.

The precise year of Jesus’ birth, which some historians place between 7 and 2 BC, is unknown.[15][16] His birth is mentioned in two of the four canonical gospels. By the early-to-mid 4th century, the Western Christian Church had placed Christmas on December 25,[17] a date later adopted in the East.[18][19] The date of Christmas may have initially been chosen to correspond with the day exactly nine months after early Christians believed Jesus to have been conceived,[20] as well as the date of celebration of the southern solstice (i.e., the Roman winter solstice), with a sun connection being possible because Christians consider Jesus to be the “Sun of righteousness” prophesied in Malachi 4:2.[20][21][22][23][24]

The original date of the celebration in Eastern Christianity was January 6, in connection withEpiphany, and that is still the date of the celebration for the Armenian Apostolic Church and inArmenia, where it is a public holiday. As of 2012, there is a difference of 13 days between the modern Gregorian calendar and the older Julian calendar. Those who continue to use the Julian calendar or its equivalents thus celebrate December 25 and January 6 on what for the majority of the world is January 7 and January 19. For this reason, EthiopiaRussiaUkraine,Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia, and the Republic of Moldova celebrate Christmas on what in the Gregorian calendar is January 7; the Church of Greece and all Greek OrthodoxChurches celebrate Christmas on December 25.

The popular celebratory customs associated in various countries with Christmas have a mix ofpre-ChristianChristian and secular themes and origins.[25] Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift givingChristmas music and caroling, an exchange of Christmas cardschurch celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various Christmas decorations, including Christmas treesChristmas lightsnativity scenesgarlandswreathsmistletoe, and holly. In addition, several closely related and often interchangeable figures, known as Santa ClausFather ChristmasSaint Nicholas and Christkind, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore.[26] Because gift-giving and many other aspects of the Christmas festival involve heightened economic activity among both Christians and non-Christians, the holiday has become a significant event and a key sales period for retailers and businesses. The economic impact of Christmas is a factor that has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world.

What is the meaning New Year:
New Year is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar’s year count is incremented. In many cultures, the event is celebrated in some manner.[1] The New Year of the Gregorian calendar, today in worldwide use, falls on 1 January, as was the case with the Roman calendar. There are numerous calendars that remain in regional use that calculate the New Year differently.

The order of months in the Roman calendar was January to December since King Numa Pompilius in about 700 BC, according to Plutarch and Macrobius. According to Catholic tradition, 1 January is the day of thecircumcision of Jesus (on the eighth day from his birth), when the name of Jesus was given to him (Luke 2:21).

It was only relatively recently that 1 January again became the first day of the year in Western culture. Until 1751 in England and Wales (and all British dominions) the new year started on 25 March – Lady Day, one of the four quarter days (the change to 1 January took place in 1600 in Scotland).[2] Since then, 1 January has been the first day of the year. During the Middle Ages several other days were variously taken as the beginning of the calendar year (1 March, 25 March, Easter, 1 September, 25 December).[citation needed][where?] In many countries, such as the Czech Republic, Italy and the UK, 1 January is a national holiday.

For information about the changeover from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar and the effect on the dating of historical events etc., see Old Style and New Style dates.

With the expansion of Western culture to many other places in the world during recent centuries, the Gregorian calendar has been adopted by many other countries as the official calendar, and the 1 January date of New Year has become global, even in countries with their own New Year celebrations on other days (such as China and India). In the culture of Latin America there are a variety of traditions and superstitions surrounding these dates[clarification needed] as omens for the coming year. The most common modern dates of celebration are listed below, ordered and grouped by their appearance relative to the conventional Western calendar.

Their gifts offer these children hope, recognition, and a positive memory they will cherish for a lifetime. Many of the books, games, and sports equipment that we provide as gifts make a significant contribution to the educational, social and recreational development of these children. In 2011, Marines distributed 15.6 million toys to more than 7.2 million children who might not have otherwise experienced the magic of the Christmas holiday season. Merry Christmas and A Prosperous New Year 2012 to All our Fans and Readers

The entire team at Diversity News Magazine, Diversity News Publications, Diversity News TV, Diversity News Radio from The Diversity News Publications Family of Companies wants to wish you and your love ones a Merry Christmas and A Prosperous New Year 2012.

Please take a moment to read what really Christmas and New Year Day is.

What is Christmas?
Christmas or Christmas Day (Old EnglishCrīstesmæsse, literally “Christ‘smass“) is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ,[5][6] celebrated generally on December 25[2][3][4] as a religious and cultural holiday by billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes theAdvent season and initiates the twelve days of Christmastide.[7] Christmas is a civil holiday in many of the world’s nations,[8][9][10] is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians,[1][11][12] and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season.

The popular celebratory customs associated in various countries with Christmas have a mix of pre-ChristianChristian and secular themes and origins.[19] Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift givingChristmas music and caroling, an exchange of Christmas cardschurch celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various decorations, including Christmas treeslightsnativity scenesgarlandswreathsmistletoe, and holly. In addition, several closely related and often interchangeable figures, known as Santa ClausFather ChristmasSaint Nicholas and Kris Kringle among other names, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore.[20] Because gift-giving and many other aspects of the Christmas festival involve heightened economic activity among both Christians and non-Christians, the holiday has become a significant event and a key sales period for retailers and businesses. The economic impact of Christmas is a factor that has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world.

What is New Year’s Day:
New Year’s Day is observed on January 1, the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar as well as the Julian calendar used in ancient Rome. With most countries using the Gregorian calendar as their main calendar, New Year’s Day is the closest thing to being the world’s only truly global public holiday, often celebrated with fireworks at the stroke of midnightas the new year starts. January 1 on the Julian calendar currently corresponds to January 14 on the Gregorian calendar, and it is on that date that followers of some of the Eastern Orthodoxchurches celebrate the New Year.
