READ SELECT CONVERSATIONS FROM PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S EXCLUSIVE APPEARANCE ON “THE VIEW” Full Interview Airs Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m., ET on ABC.

(Conversation #1)
BARBARA WALTERS: Let’s move it along a little bit. You did make that historic decision to say that you’re in favor of gay marriage. There are 30 states which are not. But there are also federal laws that impinge on the rights of gays. They can’t file a joint income tax report; they don’t have social security that they can pass to each other. Will you now fight for a federal bill that gives the same rights to heterosexuals that the federal bill now does not give to gays?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well, keep in mind that on issues like social security, for example, a lot of this has to do with what’s called the Defense of Marriage act, DOMA. It was passed originally when Hawaii started making noises about recognizing same sex marriage. The idea was we don’t want that drifting into the federal government, and this is part of the reason why my justice department has said to the courts, we don’t think the Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional. This is something that historically had been determined at the state level, and part of my believing ultimately that civil unions weren’t sufficient and I’ve been a longtime supporter of civil unions for same sex couples was partly because of the issue of social security benefits or other laws, state taxes, things like that. You know part of it was also just knowing friends and family, people that I’d gotten to know who had these wonderful relationships, and they’d say to me, You know what? The words matter. So even though you’re a strong supporter of civil unions, somehow it still says we’re different, and that particular set of conversations that I had is ultimately what led me to this conclusion.
BARBARA WALTERS: Well you’ve talked about talking with your Attorney General. Will you personally fight to repeal that act?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well, look, Congress is clearly on notice that I think it’s a bad idea.
(Conversation #2)
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Mr. President ,you took a lot of flak for passing the stimulus bill and helping out the banks, and then you took a lot of flack because people felt you didn’t do enough with the folks who were responsible. They didn’t go to jail, nobody got into trouble. So now I’m wondering, because I watched this JP Morgan Chase thing just go down, I’m wondering (A), what do you think happened, and (B), sir, what are you going to do about it, because this has to be the last straw.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well look, first of all, JP Morgan is one of the best managed banks there is. Jamie Dimon, the head of it, is one of the smartest bankers we got and they still lost $2 billion and counting precisely because they were making bets in these derivative markets. We don’t know all the details yet. It’s going to be investigated, but this is why we passed Wall Street reform. The whole point was, even if you’re smart, you can make mistakes, and since these banks are insured, backed up by taxpayers, we don’t want you taking risks where eventually we might end up having to bail you out again, because we’ve done that, been there, didn’t like it. So this is why we raised capital requirements, so that when they do lose money, they’ve got enough money socked away so they can pay off those obligations. This is why we put in place something called the vocal rule that says, if you are a federally insured bank, you can’t make bets on your own trades with your own money that could end up resulting in 2 billion or 3 billion dollar losses. Think about it, this is the best or one of the best managed banks. You could have a bank that isn’t as strong, isn’t as profitable making those same bets and we might have had to step in and that’s exactly why Wall Street reform is so important.
(Conversation #3)
BARBARA WALTERS: You’re very young. You’re what now, 50?
PRESIENT BARACK OBAMA: I’m 50, 51 this year.
BARBARA WALTERS:  Okay so you will still be a very young man even if you run another four years. Can you look ahead and say, this is what I would like to do with my life?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: No. I think at this point, what I want to spend the next 5 years doing is recreating that America where, if you work hard, you can make it, regardless of where you come from, what you look like (HUGE AUDIENCE APPLAUSE/CHEERING) and the one thing, if you don’t mind me taking just a little bit of time on this, you know sometimes you hear about America’s declining or we’re weaker or China’s on the rise or this, that or the other. Let me tell you, I travel all around the world and everywhere you go, if you ask people, where would you want to be, what country you admire, what cards would you like to have in your hand, it’s what we’ve got. We’ve still got the finest workers in the world, the best universities in the world, we’ve the best scientists, the best entrepreneurs, we’ve got  the best  market system in the world,  so we’ve got all the ingredients for success for the next 100, next 200 years, but what’s happened is, is that our politics break down, we’ve become more obsessed with winning the election than setting things up for the next generation, and if we can break through that, I could not be more confident or more proud of the this country and the direction we’re headed. (AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)
JOY BEHAR: Will it happen?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: It will happen. I believe it. It always does. (AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)
(Conversation #4)
JOY BEHAR:  And we’re back with President Barack Obama. Now we know that you know a lot about politics, you know about the law, but do you know about pop culture?  That’s the question.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I don’t know, but we’re going to find out.
JOY BEHAR: I have some questions.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:  Fire away
JOY BEHAR:  Let’s see what you’ve been reading.
JOY BEHAR: Number one: Which Karadashian was married for only 72 days? (LAUGHTER)
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: That would be Kim. (APPLAUSE)
JOY BEHAR: Very good! (APPLAUSE) Okay
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Because he was a ball player. I know he was a ball player. That’s how I know from watching basketball.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: That’s why. Because I’m sure you don’t watch the show.
JOY BEHAR: Okay, this one you may not know, I’m hoping that you don’t as a matter of fact (laughter)
SHERRI SHEPHERD: Get ready
JOY BEHAR: What’s the controversial sex book that’s on millions of women’s bedside tables?
JOY BEHAR: He doesn’t know it. Good
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I don’t know that. (LAUGHTER/AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)
JOY BEHAR:  Okay, good. Next.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I’ll ask Michelle when I get home (LAUGHTER/AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)
SHERRI SHEPHERD: That is the answer
PRESIDEN TBARACK OBAMA: I’ll ask Michelle when I get home what’s going on (LAUGHTER/AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)

Leading media company serving Hispanic America and global network news leader intend to serve and empower youngest and fastest-growing demographic in the U.S. at 50 million strong and growing.

On-air and digital offerings in English will deliver culturally relevant content featuring ABC News and Univision News anchors and correspondents.

On Monday, May 7, 2012 ABC News and Univision News announced that they have agreed in principle to form a far-reaching, multiplatform joint venture dedicated to informing, empowering and inspiring Hispanic Americans in English while providing all audiences with uncompromising coverage of current events with a unique perspective. The landmark agreement would capitalize on Univision’s news leadership and expertise in reaching U.S. Hispanics and ABC’s global news leadership to serve over 50 million Hispanics, the youngest and fastest-growing demographic in the U.S. The new 24/7 network will include America’s first English-language channel for English-dominant and bilingual Hispanics as well as integrated digital and social platforms. It will deliver news content focused on issues, lifestyle interests and culture of importance to Hispanics and will feature the trusted, award-winning journalists of ABC News and Univision News. Now for the first time Hispanic Americans will have a choice for uncompromising coverage of current events and lifestyle with a Latino perspective in English. The transaction is subject to the completion of definitive agreements.

Currently, Hispanics represent 16% of the total population in the United States, a number that is projected to double to 30% by 2050.  Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of the population, wield considerable spending power of over $1 trillion, and have an increasing impact on social, economic and political trends.

“This exciting joint venture represents the latest example of our long-term strategy to broaden the reach of ABC.  Our powerful premier news brand, combined with the world’s leading Hispanic media company, will create the nation’s first news and lifestyle channel targeted to this quickly expanding and important community,” said Anne Sweeney, co-chair, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney/ABC Television Group.

“For more than five decades Univision has been the leader in serving Hispanics in the U.S. and this joint venture is an extension of our vision to deliver the most relevant news and information, regardless of language, to all Hispanics,” Cesar Conde, president, Univision Networks. “This alliance combines the expertise and brand strength of Univision News with ABC News’ leadership and is another example of Univision’s commitment to serving and empowering Hispanic America while connecting all audiences to Latino issues.”

“All of us at ABC News are thrilled to work with Univision,” said Ben Sherwood, president, ABC News. “Our mission is clear: To offer culturally relevant news, information and lifestyle programming to the large and thriving Latino audience in the United States.  In these times of rapid change, we are very excited about this opportunity.”

“Univision News is proud to be working with ABC News in this groundbreaking venture to further deliver global news and investigative reporting to the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population which today is one of the most important influencers on the future of the United States and its role in the world,” said Isaac Lee, president, Univision News. “It will also provide all audiences with a multiplatform current events perspective on the issues that matter most to Latinos. This is an important moment for journalism in the U.S. and for the U.S. Hispanic community.”

A website, mobile and social media content are expected to debut this summer. The currently unnamed television channel is expected to launch in 2013.  Editorial coverage will focus on the issues most relevant for U.S. Hispanics, including the economy, jobs, health care, immigration, education, politics, entertainment, health and wellness and more.

A management team is expected to be announced this summer.  The network will have anchors and correspondents in major cities across the U.S.   Additionally, ABC News and Univision News will share newsgathering and production resources.

Much Anticipated, All-new Comedy Will Join the Hugely Successful ABC Wednesday Night Comedy Block

After a naïve Midwestern girl’s big city dreams are dashed during her first week in New York, she finds herself living with her worst nightmare, in a hilarious, contemporary comedy about a female odd couple who are surrounded by an outrageous cast of characters. “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23″ premieres WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11 (9:30-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” June (Dreama Walker) moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear in a puff of reality, thanks to a CEO from the Bernie Madoff school of embezzlement. It seems that her luck has turned when she gets hired at a coffee shop and finds Chloe (Krysten Ritter), a charming, vivacious roommate – but with the morals of a pirate. Chloe soon swindles June out of all her savings, but she and her snarky friend, James Van Der Beek (playing himself), come to learn that, just because June’s naïve, she isn’t stupid. June ingeniously turns the tables on Chloe, who is so shocked about being scammed herself that she decides to pull June into her colorful band of friends. Sure, it’s all dysfunctional, bizarre and overwhelming, but so is New York City.
