Consumers Reminder: Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday!

Customers Reminded to Reset Sprinkler and Lighting Timers to Save Water, Power and Money.

LOS ANGELES — Friday, November 1, 2012, With Daylight Saving Time ending at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) reminds customers to set their clocks back one hour, and reset lighting timers, programmable thermostats and sprinkler timers.

In the City of Los Angeles, outdoor watering is restricted to hours before 9:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. With cooler fall temperatures, and as the rainy season approaches, LADWP encourages customers to adjust their sprinkler timers and reduce outdoor watering. Fall is also an excellent time for outdoor planting and customers who replace their lawn with climate-appropriate flowers, shrubs, trees and water-permeable hardscape are eligible to receive $1.50 for every square foot of lawn under the LADWP’s California-Friendly Landscape Incentive Program.

LADWP also encourages customers to reset their lighting timers to turn on only after daylight hours and to remain lit only as long as necessary. Energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and long-life LED lights are recommended for installation wherever possible. CFL and LED lights may cost a little more at the outset, but they use less electricity, last longer and save customers money in the long run.

The time change presents a valuable opportunity for LADWP customers to review energy and water routines at home and in the workplace to seek out ways to conserve. Effective conservation can help customers better manage utility costs and save money. For tips on easy ways to conserve, and information on the Department’s many water and energy conservation programs and rebate programs, please visit www.ladwp.com.

Happy Thanksgiving 2011It have been another tough financial year for our industry, but we can thank GOD for still been alive.

Our editorial, photography, marketing and public relation teams wish you and your family a “Happy Safe Thanksgiving Day and Weekend.”

Have you ever wonder what is Thanksgiving? and why is been celebrated? Wikipedia.org describes as follows:

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. It has officially been an annual tradition since 1863, when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday, November 26.[1] As a federal and popular holiday in the U.S., Thanksgiving is one of the major holidays of the year. Together with Christmas and the New Year, Thanksgiving is a part of the broader holiday season.

The event that Americans commonly call the “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated to give thanksto God for guiding them safely to the New World.[2] The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days, providing enough food for 13 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans.[3] The feast consisted offish (codeels, and bass) and shellfish (clamslobster, and mussels), wild fowl (ducksgeese, swans, and turkey), venisonberries and fruitvegetables (peaspumpkinbeetroot and possibly, wild or cultivated onion), harvest grains (barley and wheat), and the Three Sisters:beans, dried Indian maize or corn, and squash.[2][4][5][6] The New England colonists were accustomed to regularly celebrating “thanksgivings”—days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought.[7]

John F KennedyDate

Since being fixed at the fourth Thursday in November by law in 1941, the holiday in the United States can occur on any date from November 22 to November 28. When it falls on November 22 or 23, it is not the last Thursday, but the penultimate Thursday in November. As it is a Federal holiday, all United States government offices are closed and employees are paid for that day. It is also a holiday for the New York Stock Exchange and most other financial markets and financial services companies.

Day after Thanksgiving

The day after Thanksgiving is a day off for some companies and many schools. It is popularly known as Black Friday, because of the heavy shopping that day helps put retailers’ books back into black. Black Friday has been considered by retailers to be the start of the Christmas shopping season since as early as the 1930s.

2011 Honda Los Angeles Marathon presented by K‐Swiss on March 20th

February 6, 2011 by
Filed under Community, Featured, News, Uncategorized

LA Marathon 2011The 26th running of the Honda LA Marathon presented by K‐Swiss will take place on Sunday, March 20, 2011 on the nation’s most dramatic marathon course, from Dodger Stadium to the Pacific Ocean.
Wireless from AT&T
A visit to Los Angeles often includes landmarks such as Dodger Stadium, Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and the beaches in Santa Monica for a dip in the Pacific Ocean.
Imagine seeing them all . . . without a single car in front of you! It’s possible only for participants in the 26th Honda LA Marathon presented by K-Swiss on March 20, 2011.

“The morning was perfect,” said 2010 runner-up Richard Limo of Kenya, who made his firstever visit to Los Angeles for the race last year. “The run to the sea was great. Mile 24 [on San Vicente Boulevard] was a great place to see balloons and flowers and the breeze from the ocean was really great.”
Although the race has been among the top-ten marathons in the world since its inception in 1986, the new Stadium to the Sea course – from Dodger Stadium to Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica – helped to set a new record of 26,054 registrants for the 2010 race. And registrations are coming in briskly for 2011.
“There will be no race-day registration for the Honda LA Marathon in 2011,” noted LA MARATHON LLC Chief Operating Officer Nick Curl. “We had to cut off registration early last year and we’re asking people to register now and not be disappointed at the last minute.”
Race registration is easy and takes only minutes on the race Web site, www.LAMarathon.com.

Out-of-town runners are being welcomed with excellent hotel options, either close to the start in downtown Los Angeles, or close to the finish in Santa Monica, Venice and Marina del Rey, beginning at $99 per night (plus applicable taxes). A menu of five downtown hotels and 18 Santa Monica-area properties is available through the “Travel” section of the Marathon Web
LadyFootlocker.com
site, with full details on pricing and complimentary raceday transportation options from both areas to the start at Dodger Stadium, and from the finish in Santa Monica back to the official downtown hotels.
All runners receive a specially-prepared “technical shirt” for raceday, with a specially-struck commemorative medal waiting at the finish line, and a finisher’s certificate which can be retrieved electronically after the race results are certified.
Champs Sports (Footlocker.com, Inc.)
Looking back on the record-setting 2010 race, many of the runners agreed with women’s runner-up Teyba Naser of Ethiopia that “I enjoyed the course, especially the scene as we approached the finish area at the beach.” The same excitement awaits those who register in time to be included in the 2011 edition on March 20.
