Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner Last Stop for Prop. 8 Plaintiffs on way to Supreme Court

LOS ANGELES – March 19, 2013, The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today announced the 2013 Los Angeles Gala on Saturday March 23 at the JW Marriott L.A. Live Hotel will celebrate Kris Perry & Sandy Stier and Paul Katami & Jeff Zarrillo, the four California plaintiffs challenging Prop. 8 before the U.S. Supreme Court. The dinner will be their last public event in their home state of California before they head to Washington for the oral argument, which begins on March 26.

In addition to the Prop. 8 plaintiffs, this year’s dinner will include other champions of equality including former Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire, who signed marriage equality into law in 2012 and then helped lead the historic campaign against the efforts to overturn the law, openly gay Congressman Mark Takano, and Rob Reiner, a board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the sole sponsor of the federal court challenge of Prop. 8. ABC’s Tom Bergeron will host the event and actress Kerry Washington will make a special appearance. HRC will honor Disney/ABC Television Group with its Corporate Equality Award for the company’s steadfast support of equality for the LGBT community. The award will be presented to the company’s president, Anne Sweeney.

Next show Paparazzi Comedy & Variety Show set for Thursday, April 4, 2013 includes 3rd Annual Anniversary Paparazzi Comedy Awards!

Paparazzi comedy & variety show now every first Thursday at The Jon Lovitz Comedy Club (formerly known as BB Kings Night club) showcases not only the best in comedy entertainment but features recording artists and upcoming bands.

West Indian Pop Princess Zhavea debuted her new song “Not In My Life” on March 7, 2013. Hosts Kente Scott (Antwone Fisher) and Janet Rousseau (WOW) offered a night of unstoppable laughter with a cast  of the funniest comedians touring the world.  Kristi McHugh (Millionare Matchmaker), Boo Kapone (White T), Treluv, Brando Murphy (Sons of Comedy), Samantha Abrams and Headliners The Famous Mooney Twins, took the stage to a delightful crowd.

Despite her success over the years as a singer, actress, and now judge, Jennifer told People that she was excited to top the list. “Rarely am I left speechless, but I feel honored,” she says. “I feel not worthy, you know? I feel happy and proud. Proud that I’m not 25!”

Jennifer believes that her beauty isn’t on the surface but comes from how she feels on the inside. “I think it’s because I have a lot of love in my life,” she tells the magazine. “I feel lucky to be an attractive person, but I’ve always felt that real beauty always comes from your heart.”

2011 Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner and Awards GalaAt a new elegant venue in the center of downtown LA, The Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Steering Committee held the 2011 Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner and Awards Gala.

Approximatively 1000 HRC supporters showed at the event, including celebrities, politicians, media representatives, and volunteers. Selected celebrities and personalities walked the red carpet.

Joe Solmonese, HRC President came from Washington, D.C. and spoke at the event. He talked about the challenges, accomplishments and success stories during 2010. He also introduced Craig Stowell to all the members. Craig Stowell is known as a conservative Republican who spoke about the challenges facing the gay community and his support for his gay brother Calvin Stowell. Also, honoree Eric Alva spoke about the membership benefits of HRC and the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) Repeal Act signed by President Barack Obama on December 23, 2010.

The award recipients were  Scarlett Johansson and Patrick Murphy who both received an Ally for Equality Award; and Rabbi Denise Eger and Rev. Canon Susan Russell who received the HRC Community Equality Award.
