Platinum-Selling Global Megastar Mariah Carey Joins “American Idol” as new Judge

On Monday, July 23, 2012 Fox announced that Mariah Carey, one of the best-selling female recording artists of all time, has joined AMERICAN IDOL as a new judge. A five-time Grammy Award-winning global superstar with more than 200 million records sold worldwide and more No. 1 songs than any solo artist in history, her 18 Billboard No. 1 singles (17 of which Carey wrote) rival all but The Beatles. Carey joins the judges’ panel when AMERICAN IDOL returns in January 2013 on FOX.
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with AMERICAN IDOL,” said Mariah Carey. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. On Thursday, July 12, 2012, Fox announced that Steven Tyler has decided to depart his role as a judge on AMERICAN IDOL. Tyler served as a judge during the 10th and 11th seasons of IDOL.
“After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’before she boils my rabbit,” said Tyler. “I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover…On Nov. 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars…IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.”

On Wednesday, May 23, 2012 the 11th season of AMERICAN IDOL came to a sensational conclusion tonight as Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner during the live two-hour season finale on FOX. Phillips, 21, from Leesburg, GA, received the most of America’s world record-shattering 132 million votes – the highest number in the show’s history.
Phillips capped his coronation on Wednesday’s finale by singing “Home,” which is available for download exclusively on www.americanidol.com and iTunes.
The broadcast from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles featured performances by the reunited Top 12 finalists, as well as music superstars Aerosmith, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Neil Diamond and Chaka Khan.
Also, in a series of special duets, John Fogerty joined Phillip Phillips; Jennifer Holliday sang with Jessica Sanchez; Season Three winner Fantasia performed with Joshua Ledet; Season Six winner Jordin Sparks accompanied Hollie Cavanagh; and Reba McEntire paired up with Skylar Laine.
On Tuesday night’s final performance show, Phillips and Sanchez each sang three songs. Phillips performed “Stand By Me,” “Movin’ Out” and “Home”; and Sanchez sang “I Have Nothing,” “The Prayer” and “Change Nothing.”
Also, Jason Derulo performed “Undefeated” and Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery returned to IDOL to sing “Please Remember Me.”
Phillips is the 11th finalist to win the coveted AMERICAN IDOL title and a record contract with 19 Recordings. He joins past winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze and Scotty McCreery.

Former American Idol Kara DioGuardi Molested & Raped Music by Producer

US Magazine reported on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 that Kara DioGuardi has dealt with far worse things than judge-table spats on American Idol.
In a frank new memoir, A Helluva High Note, the music industry vet and former Idol judge, 40, reveals that she suffered molestation as a a child and, as a young adult, was date-raped by a prominent music producer.
DioGuardi says that, at age 11, a teenaged family friend repeatedly molested her. “On one particular day, he took me into the the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my [body],” DioGuardi writes in an excerpt at E! News. “I remember freezing and not knowing what to do.”
Another painful secret: In 2000, as her music career rose, she went on a date with a “fairly known producer,” who sexually forced himself upon her after a cordial dinner.
“[W]ithin a few hours, he was on top of me, pumping, sweating, and speaking to me in Spanish, not a word of which I could understand,” DioGuardi writes.
She kept the violent date-rape secret for fear it would ruin her career, she says.
DioGuardi also writes of sexual harassment at the hands of a “hugely successful artist” who was obsessed with “Russian porn” and hiring strippers for perform sex acts in front of him.
Of her early season 9 departure from Idol, the star explains that she was struggling to get pregnant via IVF.
“I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV. . . My desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name.” A Helluva High Note hits shelves April 26; DioGuardi will next appear on TV via Platinum Hit, a new Bravo reality series debuting May 30.
