Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner Last Stop for Prop. 8 Plaintiffs on way to Supreme Court

LOS ANGELES – March 19, 2013, The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today announced the 2013 Los Angeles Gala on Saturday March 23 at the JW Marriott L.A. Live Hotel will celebrate Kris Perry & Sandy Stier and Paul Katami & Jeff Zarrillo, the four California plaintiffs challenging Prop. 8 before the U.S. Supreme Court. The dinner will be their last public event in their home state of California before they head to Washington for the oral argument, which begins on March 26.

In addition to the Prop. 8 plaintiffs, this year’s dinner will include other champions of equality including former Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire, who signed marriage equality into law in 2012 and then helped lead the historic campaign against the efforts to overturn the law, openly gay Congressman Mark Takano, and Rob Reiner, a board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the sole sponsor of the federal court challenge of Prop. 8. ABC’s Tom Bergeron will host the event and actress Kerry Washington will make a special appearance. HRC will honor Disney/ABC Television Group with its Corporate Equality Award for the company’s steadfast support of equality for the LGBT community. The award will be presented to the company’s president, Anne Sweeney.

The Holiday Fashion and Awards show was held at Celebrity Center International at 5930 Franklin Avenue in Hollywood, CA 90028 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The price for tickets were a donation at the door to benefit L.A. Karilagan Lions Club District 4-L3, Eye Medical Mission to the Philippines and ABS CBN Foundation International Adopt-A-School.

The event featured guest artist performance by Javier Di Francesco from Paraguay, Fashion Show, Appetizers, Red Carpet Arrivals and Awards presentation.

The awards and recognition presented were for Most Fascinating Lady in Red of the Year 2012, Most Fascinating Person of the Year 2012 and Most Fascinating Couple of the Year 2012.

Some of the people honored received a red rose and awards as Most Fascinating Lady in Red 12-12-12 and Most Fascinating Person of the Year 2012. The awards and roses were presented by Actor, Philanthropist, Producer and Fashion Designer Boy Lizaso and Philippine Consul General Maria Helen Barber De La Vega. The event was hosted by FACC-LA Noel S.V. Omega.

Among all the fans and guests were Published Book Author Lourdes Duque Baron from Scripted In Heaven and writer/reporter Fe P. Koons.

100 Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the USA 2012 benefits Gawad Kalinga not ABS-CBN Foundation International Bantay Bata 163 with 2 Million Pesos

Mr. Tony Olaes, Exectuive Director of Gawad Kalinga USA,  and one of the Business Entrepreneur Awardee will donate his own money to Bantay Bata 163 and match the ONE MILLION PESOS on behalf of the 100 Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the USA 2012 project and the 99 other awardees. A total goal of 2 MILLION PESOS were granted that night. (2 million Philippine pesos = $50. 000.00 U.S. dollars)

It was advertise as a benefit event for ABS-CBN Foundation International Bantay Bata 163, due to the controversy the got out of control of Pay for Play and media company ABS-CBN drop out as benefiting organization two days before the event.

On Saturday, July 28, 2012 Philippine Children’s Charities, Inc., and the Press Photographers Philippines-USA, Inc., held their first ever in history public recognition of the 100 Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the USA 2012 for their chosen careers or their civic contributions to our Diverse society. The event known as a Black Tie Event and Awards Night. The event was held at Universal Hilton Hotel located 555 Universal Hollywood Drive in the city of Universal City, CA 91608 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The cost of the dinner and award tickets for the event were $60.00.

“PPP-USA officers and members would like to extend our congratulations to Ms. Darna Omayam, all 100 Fil-Am awardees and all those who have been involved to make this event happen. Being a part of a trustworthy and reliable charity project was the most exciting, overwhelming experience a person could ever be proud of in his lifetime.” said Anthony Castillo (PPP-USA).

For those who wondering what happen to, here is a copy of an email we received from a private source: “ABS CBN Foundation International has decided to withdraw from its scheduled participation in the 100 Outstanding Filipino Americans dinner sponsored by Philippine Children’s Charities and its founder, Ms. Darna Umayan.  After careful deliberation, the board of directors of the Foundation has concluded today that recent statements made by Ms. Umayan will make it untenable for ABS CBN Foundation International to be part of this initiative.  The Foundation regrettably has also  decided to decline the planned donation to Bantay Bata.” said Mr. Raffy Lopez, ABS CBN Foundation International Bantay Bata 163.

The black tie event and award night featured grand entrance parade of colors of PP-USA, Inc officers and members. The USA and Lupang Hinirang, the national anthem of the Philippines was sung. Welcome remarks were made by event project director Darna B. Umayam and Sid Guerrero, president of PPP-USA, Inc. The guests enjoyed an 8 course dinner while been entertain by Anthony Paul, Nicole Villalon, Sheila Ferrari and Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance group. Daniel R. Espiritu, Deputy Consul General and Robbie Fabian, President of ABS-CBN Foundation were a no show. The event concluded with presentation of all the 100 Oustanding Filipino Americans in the USA Awardees.

The  100 Oustanding Filipino Americans in the USA 2012 was master of ceremonies were Sheila Ferrari, Antoinette Taus and Liza Dino.

As of date of this article, we have requested the names of the awardees and per Ms. Darna B. Umayam due to a mutual agreement with the awardees their names will not be released. Here is the response our editorial office received in e-mail dated August 2, 2012 from Ms. . Darna B. Umayam stating: “The awardees themselves and all of us decided we will not publish the names of the awardees to protect all of them. There were photos taken and publish in public.  Other publications understood where we are coming from. I hope you will understand too.  I told all newspapers we will release after the event. Things happen.”

Fundraiser For The Ferret Squad Film Donates Over $1,100 To Legalize Ferrets

Percentage of Online Donations Goes to Organization Intent on Making Pet Ferrets Legal in CA.
On Wednesday, July 4, 2012, The Ferret Squad Media announced that over the past several months, Canadian Director, Alison Parker, has been using the online donation site www.Indiegogo.com to raise funds to make her next feature film, The Ferret Squad. The word about the movie spread over social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and by the end of the fundraising campaign in early June, 284 funders from all corners of the globe had donated over $25,000.00 toward the film. Parker had decided that since the movie’s central focus is the fact that pet ferrets are illegal in California, 5% of the net donations would be given to the group www.LegalizeFerrets.org — a group dedicated to making the domestic ferret legal.

Parker is pleased to announce that with the help of funders, the total donation to LegalizeFerrets.org totalled $1,110.94 USD.



“Thanks to the many supporters and contributors of The Ferret Squad, we were able to make a sizable donation to assist in the fight to Legalize Ferrets in California. Here’s hoping that the publicity from the film will also make a difference. This is a law that needs to be overturned as soon as possible. Ferrets are domesticated animals. They’re pets. They’re family,” declared Parker.

With the help of the fundraising efforts, Parker hopes to commence filming in August, 2012, in the Vancouver, British Columbia area.

The Ferret Squad tells the story of Max Jones, played by Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale star Connor Stanhope (Connor also played the role of young “Lex Luthor” on the TV series Smallville). When Animal Control plans to destroy some confiscated ferrets, Max and the Ferret Squad go on a desperate mission to save the poor animals by transporting them across the border with the law and their parents in hot pursuit. Ferret.com Believes in The Ferret Squad Movie!

On Saturday, May 26, 2012 — Vancouver, BC., The Ferret Squad Media announced that Ferret.com (www.ferret.com), an online retailer based out of Pennsylvania, that sells a vast variety of ferret products, is the most recent corporation to make a donation to assist in the making of the independent feature film, The Ferret Squad.  Ferret.com is a subsidiary of TABcom LLC. TABcom LLC, founded in 1969, is the parent company to a wide variety of pet-related websites, including Dog.com, Bird.com, Horse.com, Ferret.com, Fish.com and StateLineTack.com. All sites provide a broad range of competitively priced pet supplies, as well as community forums and partnerships with several national and local rescue and adoption facilities.  Ferret.com also features a “ferret forum” — which provides a wealth of knowledge and a chance for ferret owners from around the world to communicate via the internet at all hours of the day and night.

The Ferret Squad is a new feature film in the works from Canadian director, Alison Parker (Jake and Jasper: A Ferret Tale). The coming of age movie is about a young group of friends called The Ferret Squad, who spend their summer days rescuing and fostering abandoned ferrets in California.

“It’s an incredibly unique twist on the popular kids and animals concept. For once, ferrets are going to be shown in a positive light. This has never been done before, and it’s long overdue!,” says Parker, who is owned by two ferrets herself.

With the help of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and media partner Diversity News Publications, Director Alison Parker has created a world-wide buzz in support of the film.

Already on tap to star in the movie are actors Connor Stanhope (known for his role as “Young Lex Luthor” in the TV series Smallville), Blu Mankuma (“Harry Helmsley”, 2012) and Sierra Pitkin (“Liberty Bell”, Juno). Screenwriter Sally Meyer (You’re So Cupid) wrote the script for The Ferret Squad and filming is slated to begin this summer in Vancouver, BC.

In order to cover production costs for The Ferret Squad, Parker is using crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo, where companies and regular people alike can make donations in support of the project.

Donation levels range anywhere from $8 to $10,000, with many perks being offered in exchange, including ‘pawtographed’ DVD’s, Associate and Executive Producer credits, and much more.

“This film is going to change the way the world thinks about ferrets,” states Parker. “I am so happy to see companies like Ferret Depot and now Ferret.com getting on board The Ferret Squad bandwagon! They are both big supporters of animal rescues and shelters, and that’s what this film is about. It’s also about standing up for what you believe in.

The Ferret Squad believes that ferrets should be legal in California. They believe that all animals deserve a safe and loving forever home. Thank you Ferret.com for helping us make this film a reality!”
