The University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles (UPAAGLA) elected Mutch Carino as President and he was sworn by Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz, together with the newly elected Officers and Board of Directors.
The UPAAGLA Gala and Induction Ball was held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Whittier Los Angeles 7320 Greenleaf Ave, Whittier, CA 90602.
The well-attended event was sold-out to the full capacity with guests that include elected officials, heads ofFiorganizations, chambers of commerce, business and community leaders, among others, were dressed to the nines.
The newly-elected officers who were inducted are Ethel Rubio (President-Elect), Nati Matitu (1st VP), Evelyn Andamo (2nd VP), Joy Angeles (Recording Secretary), Yvee Tadeo-Guevara (Corresponding Secretary), Gil Guinto (Treasurer), Melette Lampino (Assistant Treasurer), Dick Cu (Auditor), Benny Uy (PRO) and Bobby Canseco (IT Officer).
The Board of Directors are Ivy Manalang, Atty. Mary Lyn Sanga, Ellery Atienza, Mary Trinidad, Sonny Gancayco, Annie Nepomuceno, Mary Drees, Jess Espanola, Bob Shroder, Carina Slepian, Ivy Cosio-Bautista, Ellen Gomez, Relson Banas, and Angie Alvarez.
All the inductees received Certificates of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles through Commissioner Joel Jacinto, Assemblyman Mike Gipson and City of Carson Councilman Elito Santarina.
In his inaugural address, Carino said that “together with his dynamic team of officers and board of directors, they will organize and create special projects that will help increase the membership of UPAAGLA, generate greater community involvement and set higher fundraising goals towards its scholarship program.
He looks forward to working cohesively with his team that will combine youth and good old experience. They will share with each other creative, innovative and dynamic ideas towards the continued success of UPAAGLA as started by its previous leaderships.
Mutch Carino is a 35-year event professional, who has produced and promoted some of the most successful and biggest Fil-Am events in Los Angeles.
This includes Fiesta Filipiniana sa Knott’s Berry Farm that drew the 5th largest attendance in the oldest theme park in the world, Paskong Pilipino sa Universal Studios that was telecast live via satellite, and Fil-Am Funfest at Magic Mountain that headlined American Idol’s Jasmine Trias and nearly 100 U.S.-based Fil-Am artists.
He currently produces several annual events that include Spotlight Awards, Woman of Worth or WOW Awards, TOP-LA, Children’s Day and the Filipino American History Month celebration.
Carino is a member of the Upsilon Sigma Phi – the oldest fraternity in Asia that will be celebrating its centennial in 2018 – whose roster includes Hon. Danilo Concepcion, current President of the University of the Philippines, and Atty. Ramon Maronilla, current UPAA President.
The U.P. Madrigal Singers alumni led the entertainment fare that featured top-rate performers that include two-time Aliw Awardee Christine Love, Grammy Awards nominee Louise Marie Cornillez, and Spotlight Award’s Best Young Artist Michael Keith.
Dance music was provided by The AMFM Band along with DJ Aljess Bernardo, who also supplied the special up lights of the evening.
