Oscar® Nominations Voting opened to 5,856 Academy Voters on Monday December 17, 2012, and Until They Are Home is on the Oscar List in two categories for music for the 85th Academy Awards. But animal lovers are wagging their tail because of a special treat inside this film – the film footage that corresponds to the famous photo of the war kitten. The photo of the soldier who bent down during war to give a drink of water to a lost kitten amid the bloody battlefields. The famous photo finally comes alive on the big screen.
The film Until They Are Home features actual footage from the 1940’s of the very first military combat photographers to ever film during battle. Norm Hatch shows what it was like to run and gun in the Pacific as one of the first ever motion picture combat photographers. And the footage captures a very small but magical moment. The soldier and the war kitten movie footage shows how a tiny animal can bring us back to a touch of humanity even in the darkest of times, such as the bloodiest battle in the history of war, the Battle of Tarawa. This never-before-
Until They Are Home is about relieving the grief of the families of Marines whose bodies were never given proper burial. Norm Hatch’s footage with the Marines at Tarawa won an Oscar in 1944. And he was up for an Honorary Oscar this year – the Oscar that Oprah Winfrey won. Now Norm Hatch’s footage is featured in Until They Are Home as the men who lay in that old battlefield are finally repatriated and children and grandchildren find closure. Norm Hatch lives in Alexandria, Virginia, the very city where Until They Are Home Producer Tamara Henry was born in 1971 while her father William W. Henry was serving our country for 20 years in Intelligence at the Pentagon and he received a Bronze Star.

Movie makers and film fanatics hold their breath as they watch this old black and white film reel of the first ever motion picture combat photographers like Norm Hatch who filmed war hero Eddie Albert before he went on to become a legendary actor. Back in 1997, before Steven C. Barber became a filmmaker, he met Eddie Albert on his mountain bike ride and eventually interviewed Eddie Albert in his home, filled with quartz crystals, and this narrative visit caught on home video opens the film. Since Eddie Albert’s death in 2005, Barber has continued to work under Albert’s inspiration. This film is a must see for animal lovers, as the documentary duo Steven and Tamara of Vanilla Fire are pet fanatics themselves. Vanilla Fire was named after a pet and their dog “Jimmy Chew” has his own IMDb page. The content creating documentary duo had their “children” on Animal Planet as they lived out their entire romantic life on reality TV, along their filmmaking journey. http://RealityTVcouple.weebly.com/
This is the second time Vanilla Fire has been in the Oscar race. Once in 2010 for Unbeaten and now in 2012 for Until They Are Home. Unbeaten was named Top 10 Olympic Film of all time by TIME magazine this year next to Steven Spielberg’s Munich. Vanilla Fire is currently in post production on their next Olympic film called The Invincibles. http://www.facebook.com/
Until They Are Home is being considered for a nomination for the 2013 Genesis Awards, which pays tribute to the major news and entertainment media for producing outstanding works that raise public awareness about animal issues. However the Genesis Awards Benefit Gala is March 23, 2013, the same day that Steven C. Barber and Tamara Henry have recently chosen for their wedding date. The filmmaking couple Steven and Tamara are big animal lovers, having matching pets of their own. Jimmy Chew is a five year old Maltese mix and Kozy Mel is a one year old shaded silver Persian. The entire family is set to make appearances on multiple reality TV shows in 2013. But first they are currently on the road to Oscar and will be spending New Years in suspense as the 2012 Oscar Nominations will be announced on November 10th, 2013. Until They Are Home is currently in the VARIETY magazine in the Awards Nomination Guide. Director Steven C. Barber and Until They Are Home narrator Kelsey Grammer have been interviewed on Larry King Now which is set to air mid January 2013. Steven and Tamara can always be seen on Oscar night at the Night of 100 Stars on February 24, 2013. And the Vanilla Fire wedding is set for Saturday March 23, 2013 in Santa Monica, CA.
Jimmy Chew and Kozy Mel are both reality star pets, featured in the various reality TV shows when Steven and Tamara make appearances. But Tamara is most proud of the war kitten footage in her current film as it shows how animals can bring a touch of humanity in even the darkest of times for humans, such as in the bloodiest battle in war history, the battle of Tarawa.
Steven has been returning to Tarawa to film twice. He brought WWII Vet Leon Cooper and they filmed “Return to Tarawa: The Leon Cooper Story” narrated by Ed Harris. It triggered Congress to pass legislation and the sequel was filmed, Until They Are Home, which is now on the 2012 Oscar List in two categories for music.
