On Wednesday, May 30, 2012 Director Alison Parker and Casting Director Travis Doering announced today that Falcor the Ferret will be joining the cast of the upcoming feature film, The Ferret Squad, in the lead role of “Digger”.
“I struggled with this decision for a long time, because I am Falcor’s human, and I didn’t want to be distracted by him while filming,” says Director Alison Parker. “But the fans have spoken, and Falcor has won their hearts. I didn’t want to let the fans down.”
Yes, she said “fans.” Although this will mark Falcor’s first role in a feature, the ferret is no stranger to the spotlight. Earlier in 2012, Falcor charmed viewers as Jasper in the short film Jake & Jasper: A Ferret Tale, alongside fellow The Ferret Squad cast mates Connor Stanhope (Smallville) and Blu Mankuma (2012). The film received world-wide media attention and continues to garner film festival success. Falcor also starred in several commercials for Marshall Pet Products, including the popular “Ferret Facts”, which now boasts over 7 million views on the Petco website. In March of 2011, Falcor appeared in a TV Commercial for LegalizeFerrets.org with another The Ferret Squad cast mate, Sierra Pitkin (Juno). The spot aired on Broadcast Television in the Los Angeles area on channels such as HGTV, Discovery, and Animal Planet, just to name a few.
“Falcor is an incredibly talented animal actor, so it was a no brainer for me as a casting director, ” says Travis Doering. “He’s also non-union, which is great for our budget.”
Falcor made history this year when he became the first ferret in the world to have an IMDB page. Joining the likes of animal stars like Bart the Bear (The Edge, The Bear, Legends of the Fall) and Keiko the Killer Whale (Free Willy Trilogy), The Ferret Squad will be Falcor’s third IMDB credit in the past year alone.
The future looks bright for Falcor the Ferret, who announced just this spring that he would be retiring from the movie business to enjoy some time at home. “Falcor is a very happy ferret, and I want to give him the best life I can. I’ve never seen him happier than when he is in training for a film role. He loves attention, and he especially loves treats!” laughs Parker.
The movie The Ferret Squad follows a young boy named Max (Connor Stanhope) who smuggles his pet ferret into California, where they are illegal. He befriends a group of kids who run an underground ferret rescue and adoption organization, and joins them in risky ferret rescue missions, while living under the watchful eye of California’s Fish and Game Commission.. But when his secret is exposed, he must stand up for what he believes in and fight for what he loves, or risk losing his beloved pet forever.
The Ferret Squad, written by Sally Meyer (You’re So Cupid, Minor Details), aims to bring awareness to the ferret ban in California, as well as being one of the first films to show ferrets in a positive light. The film is slated to begin filming in August 2012 in Vancouver, Canada.

Donations are required to cover production costs of this independent family film and fundraising ends June 10, 2012.
